Guest guest
Can anyone tell me why there are no more Golden Temple restaurants? What would it take to open a new one? Javaughn aka Sirinder Kaur
Guest guest
Sat Nam Sirinder Kaur, The Golden Temple Restaurants were usually individually owned enterprises which were established to provide work for people in the ashrams of the 70's-90's. We shared great vegetarian food and great spiritual " Sat Nam " atmosphere. These GTR were in the US and EU. I worked at the Golden Temple in Amsterdam in 1972- 1975 and then my husband and I moved to Hamburg, Germany where we established a Golden Temple Restaurant as well as 3HO Germany and the first Guru Ram Das Ashram in Germany. We nurtured the GTR for 17 years and then Yogi Bhajan told us to sell it and put the money into growing the European YOGI TEA business. And that is what we did. It is essential to develop a very realistic business model for a vegetarian restraurant because most vegetarian establishments bring in their profits from alcohol and meat. I know of people or yoga schools who are incorporating a vegetarian snack bar or simple restaurant into their yoga studios/ businesses. With a well-planned business model, this works well. Many blessings to you and your creative efforts to serve people good food and vibs. I have many recipes and great stories to share and I am sure that there are many others from our global GTR veterans! Guest guest
Sat Nam, Are you wanting to open a restaurant with yourself as cook or owner? Are you wanting a Golden Temple...for what reason? Perhaps, a restaurant with a connection to Yogi Bhajan? I am asking because the restaurant business is " difficult " or " fun " depending on who you ask. If your looking to open a restaurant yourself, with a connection to Yogi Bhajan, I would suggest that you check out Cafe Yumm! At this point in time, you can go on their website or visit Eugene, Oregon USA where their headquarters is located. This is a husband and wife team, who have a connection to spirit and Yogi Bhajan. They met Yogi Bhajan in late 1970's in Alaska, and she went to Khalsa Women's Camp where she added to her already extensive cooking skills. Cafe Yumm is " fast casual " . There menu is basically organic rice and bean with enough flare to be franchisable. Think of whats been done with " burritos " . They have perfected their food and decor. The goal is to open 50 restaurant within 5 years on the West Coast USA; they have the capital and people (one of their executives is from the fast food franchise industry) If you would like to open a restaurant then check out Cafe Yumm! If your looking for soul satisfing and deeply nourishing, look for Cafe Yumm in the very near future. If your in Eugene, Oregon then any Kundalini Yogi/Khalsa will gladly take you to dinner. If your really serious, we can arrange a meeting...
