Guest guest
Dear Sangat: As we start the healing meditations in honor of Guru Ram Das, let us please keep the Burmese in our hearts and prayers. As you have probably heard, since late August Buddhist Monks have been demonstrating for human rights and Democracy in Burma (also known as Myanmar). News today reports that the government has fired on and killed demonstrators. Two years ago February, my husband and I visited Burma on our honeymoon. One evening, we were walking through a small town after dinner. We heard a steady rumbling. Listening closer, we realized the sound had a rhythm. Our friend, a local, said, " That's from the monastery. Once a week the Monks pray all night for The Lady. " ('The Lady' is how everyone refers to Aung San Suu Kyi, the beloved pro-Democracy leader under house arrest for 12 years.) We had goosebumps, feeling the love and dedication with which the Monks were praying and chanting for her and by extension for their country. We've never met kinder, more heart-centered people than the people in Burma. When they smiled, it was as if the sun was beaming all its radiance through that one person. Everyone we met was working very hard and simply wanted a better life. Let us keep them in our prayers. May we chant Akaal three times for those who have died in these recent altercations. May the leaders in government and the soldiers on the streets have compassion and be filled with newfound wisdom to herald a more enlightened time. May the Monks be blessed with love, strength, honor and eternal peace for their leadership and sacrifice. May the people of Burma be blessed with forgiveness, joy and prosperity. May Burma find healing. Thank you, Gurujot Kaur Santa Fe
Guest guest
Thank you Gurjot Kaur for sharing your experience of Myanmar. Let us all pray (those who are moved to-doesn't have to be a big long thing-just whisper to God-or in your own way communicate to Him/the Universe to take care of these folks) for those less fortunate than we, who are being oppressed there, and those who have lost their lives....
