Guest guest
Sat Nam. I've had this problem for years and it caused me to kill two teeth, resulting in root canals. I have tried many things and I am still dealing with this issue, although I've made a lot of progress in the last year or so. I look forward to hearing ideas and solutions from others. Recently in my SatNamRasayan class, the teacher noted that my jaw clenching/grinding is one way that I stop the flow in my body and keep a lot of energy stuck in my head. The element of air is very strong in me and I need to balance it out with more earth energy. So I do a lot of walking (noticing sensations in my feet and legs), KY for the lower triangle (esp. root chakra), eat root foods (beets, carrots, etc.), and I have started to experiment with the healing energies of stones. Hematite, black tourmaline and obsidian have been good for me. I have also started Tai Chi, which sinks the breath low in the 3rd chakra, and I feel this has helped me be more " in body " than " in my head. " When I follow all these guidelines, I find I am much more relaxed, then energy flows better through all of me, and my jaw and teeth are relaxed. I have also heard from a Chinese medicine point of view that there is some dysfunction in the liver that causes the grinding. I do work with an OMD for Chinese herbs and acupuncture and believe this helps too. Finally I see an excellent bio-dentist here in Santa Fe who created a splint, which I wear almost all the time and definitely at night. The idea is to get my jaw to relax so that the bite can change to produce better energy flow. I was alternating treatments with chiropractors/osteopaths/cranial sacral healers, then seeing the dentist for a splint adjustment. He would grind the splint down and muscle test me to see if there was any disruption to flow in through the jaw. We went back and forth like this. Then after a certain point, the dentist creates another mouth-guard, like a soft splint, and rebuilds the teeth so that the bite is normal. It's amazing how out of whack your mouth can get from grinding. The dentist also told me that I should follow this motto " Lips together, teeth apart. " You should be able to slide a pencil in between your teeth; that's how much space there should be. I check in periodically during the day and notice if my teeth are together or apart, consciously opening them. This is what I know so far. I look forward to hearing what works from other people.
