Guest guest
Sat Nam all, I have a friend who's father was recently diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis or Motor Neurone Disease, although I'm not sure what particular strain of the disease he has. Just to explain, " The motor neurone diseases (or motor neuron diseases) (MND) are a group of progressive neurological disorders that destroy motor neurones, the cells that control voluntary muscle activity including speaking, walking, breathing, swallowing and general movement of the body. " Although the intellect of the person with this disease remains intact, they will lose their ability to move any part of their body and be left in a vegetable state. There is currently no known cure for this disease. I wanted to know if anyone has had any experiences with people with this disease and whether you know of any Kundalini diets, kriyas, meditations or mantras that may help to cure or slow down the effect of this disease? For those who may not be familar with ALS/MND, this disease affects the lateral horn <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lateral_horn> of the spinal cord. Two possible causes for it may be Oxidative stess or Excitotoxicity. Oxidative stress is caused by an imbalance between the production of reactive oxygen and a biological system's ability to readily detoxify the reactive intermediates or easily repair the resulting damage. All forms of life maintain a reducing environment within their cells. This reducing environment is preserved by enzymes that maintain the reduced state through a constant input of metabolic energy. Disturbances in this normal redox state can cause toxic effects through the production of peroxides and free radicals that damage all components of the cell, including proteins, lipids, and DNA. Excitotoxicity is the pathological process by which nerve cells are damaged and killed by glutamate and similar substances. This occurs when receptors for the excitatory neurotransmitter glutamate such as the NMDA receptor and AMPA receptor are overactivated. Excitotoxins like NMDA and kainic acid which bind to these receptors, as well as pathologically high levels of glutamate, can cause excitotoxicity by allowing high levels of calcium ions[1] (Ca2+) to enter the cell. Ca2+ influx into cells activates a number of enzymes, including phospholipases, endonucleases, and proteases such as calpain. These enzymes go on to damage cell structures such as components of the cytoskeleton, membrane, and DNA. Excitotoxicity may be involved in spinal cord injury, stroke, traumatic brain injury and neurodegenerative diseases of the central nervous system. I would appreciate it if anyone could provide any information that would help. I intend to pass these words of advice to my friend's father. Thank you in advance. Kind regards and blessings to all, Jasdeep Hari Bhajan Singh Khalsa. Email: j4zzyb United Kingdom
Guest guest
Sat Nam Jasdeep, My advice is use the reciatation of Anand Sahib Paat continuously. Either through some device (ie. ipod) or someone reading the paat itself. The daily bani's are also essential. The other usage will be fresh live set yoghurt for the person to eat, (I would speak to the doctor before administering this as calcium is present). The yoghurt will be a good method to help the body cleanse itself. The elderly punjabi sikhs in your area can give you advice also on which foods to use. Blessings, Goldie Singh.
Guest guest
Sat nam, Perhaps there would be some information in this book- " Meditation as Medicine " http://www.drdharma.com/Public/Bio/MeditationasMedicine/index.cfm good luck, Kartar Kaur Kundaliniyoga , " singh101uk " <j4zzyb wrote: > > Sat Nam all, > > I have a friend who's father was recently diagnosed with Amyotrophic > Lateral Sclerosis or Motor Neurone Disease, although I'm not sure what > particular strain of the disease he has.
