Dear Members/Moderators,

I am apart of this group for a long time but have not send many mails

before.My details are :

Gothram : Bharathwaja

Nakshatram : Maham

Ancestor/Gurus : Angirasa , Bhargaspatya,Bharadwaja

Mutt : Ahobilam

I have some questions regarding our practices

and hence wanted some clarifications on these :

1.Why is it considered that a person becomes a true Vaishnavaite

after Samharshanam and Baranyasam only ? Isnt birth into an Iyengar

family sufficient to ensure the same.If not and if the case is that a

person becomes something or obtains a higher status only due to

certain rituals then what is the importance of classifying all people

in the world on the basis of birth? Isnt everyone born equal.

2.Since Smarthas/Iyers do not undergo Samharshanam and Baranyasam are

they not Brahmins ?

3.Where or how did the practice of wearing madisar sarees started for

Brahmin ladies ? Why is the Iyer and the Iyengar method of wearing

the same different ?

I would be greatly indebted to anyone who can answer these ?

I am sorry if any religious sentiments are hurt.I myself am a

complete believer in Sriman Narayana but am not very ritualistic

Thanks & Regards,

Kartik Ramabadran
