We managed to save the tooth but it required a root canal. Some time later I noticed the tooth was discolouring and took her to a different dentist. Apparently the original work was done with silver amalgam (sp?) rather than white and it was this that was causing the discolouring. The dentist took the old filling out and inserted a bleaching product, which was left in for a week or so and then the tooth was re-filled. Recently she mentioned the tooth is starting to discolour again (she's nearly 20 and away from home now). > > Melony > > > > > The article details research done by Ritter, who suggests that dentists warn patients about " ..its detrimental effect on tooth structure... The bleaching certainly doesn't make the enamel more resistant to stain. > > > > > > >
