Sri: Srimate Ramanujaya Namah:Sri Kooresaya Namah:Sri Dasarathy Maha Gurave Namah:Srimate Varavara Munaye Namah:Sri Vanathri Yoginea Namah:Sri Venkata Guruve Namah:Sri Annavilappan Thiruvadigale SaranamSri K.K.V.A. Ramanajachar Thiruvadigale SaranamPriya BhagavathargaalAs you would all know Mudhaliyandan along with Koorathazhwan are the foremost of Emperumanar Adiyargal. Even as Koorathazhwan had to unfortunately separate from Swami during Mel Naattu Iruppu, Mudhaliyandan was most fortunate to be with Swami during that entire episode. During that time, Mudhaliyan Sripaadha theertha mahimai was made known to the world by Swami Himself. He asked Mudhaliyandan to wash His feet at one of the ponds used by Jains. The Jains became

purified, became sathvikargal and attained Emperumanar thiruvadi. This charitram is remebered even today by the fact that the Sri Paadha theertham from Mudhaliyandan Thirumaligai is eligible to be given to all Sri Vaishnavas, irrespective of their being other Acharya Thiruvadi sambhandhigal. In fact the Sri Paadha Theertham is eligible to be given to people not following Sri Vaishnava principles too. That episode highlighted the Prabhavam of Mudhaliyandan, and that too, it was revealed by Swami Emperumanar Himself.Alavandhar in His stotra rathnam prays for the following pirappu. "Thava daasya sukaikka sanginaam bhavaneshu astu api keeta janmame". A birth of of a worm (keeta janmam) in the house (bhavanam) of a Sri Vaishnavar who is attached only to the joy of Bhagavath Kainkaryam. Would any of us even imagine a pirappu in Africa, let alone a pirappu of a keeta janmam. Then, why the prayer for such a

birth?Alavandhar Thiruvullam is that, the sri vaishnavar after doing bhagavath kainkaryam would come to the house to do anushtanangal. He would come to the puzhakkadai to wash His Thiruvadi. At that time, the theertham from the Thiruvadi would fall on this worm living in the Puzhakkadai of the Sri Vaishnavar's Thriumaligai. With the sambhandham of the Sri Paadha theertham, the aathma ujjevanam of the worm would happen. Alavandhar feels that such a Sri paadha theertha sambhandham to be greater than His current pirappu. Such is the prabhavam of Sri Paadha theertham.Knowing that the Sri paadha theertham of a great sri vaishnavar would purify any soul, Swami Emperumanar chose Mudhaliyandan to wash His feet in the pond to purify the jains. This would directly mean Swami Himself had acknowledged the prabhavam of Mudhaliyandan. In our sampradayam, the mention of Sri Paadha theertha prabhavam would immediately

invoke Mudhaliyandan prabhavam. It is also worth remembering that Mudhaliyandan is considered an amsam of Rama piran, who Himself had given sapa vimochanam to Agalyai through His Sri Paadha sparsham. For a person with so much

prabhavam, Mudhaliyandan Himself was a mukkurumbarutthavar (person who destroyed the three kurumbu (madham, pride) - pride by birth, pride by wealth, pride by knowledge). His humility and karunai ullam is beautifully expressed in an episode involving Embar.Once Mudhaliyandan had to be away from Srirangam. During that time, one of His sishyar, hearing the prabhavam of Embar, went and submitted himself at Embar's thiruvadi. Embar, not knowing that sri vaishnavar had already undergone pancha samskarangal under Mudhaliyandan, accepted the sri vaishnavar as His sishyar. Embar performed pancha samskarams, started rahasyaartha upadesangal and also accepted the sri vaishnavar's kainkaryangal. Then one day, Mudhaliyandan returned to Srirangam, and seeing Him, the sri vaishnavar fell at His thiruvadi. Embar happened to notice this. Embar went and asked Mudhaliyandan, as to how come He knew this sri vaishnavar. To that Mudhaliyandan

replied that He had performed pancha samskarangal for the sri vaishnavar. Hearing this Embar trembled, felt very very guilty, and will all humility prayed for kshamai (porutthal, tolerance) towards the grave apacharam, that He had committed towards Mudhaliyandan. To this kshamai prarthanai, Mudhaliyandan replied that there is no need for kshamai pradhanam as there had been no apacharam commited. To the contrary Mudhaliyandan praised Embar whole heartedly for the help. Why did Embar tremble on knowing that the sri vaishnavar was already a sisyar of Mudhaliyandan? What was great about Mudhaliyandan not considering it as a apacharam? And what was even greater about Mudhaliyandan considering it as an upakaram? The answers to the above questions will surely make us realise the glowing karunai ullam of Mudhaliyandan. We can enjoy that karunai ullam quite shortly in the next post.In

the santhathi of such a great acharyar, is the varthamana (present) Mudhaliyandan swami, Koil Kandhadai Vadhoola Annavilappan Ramanujacharyar. Sishyargal and abhimanigal would know the Swami to be full of soulabhyam and kainkarya nisthtai. Swami would make Himself easily available for anyone, even for sishyas of other thirumaligaigal. During Azhwan 1000 thirunakshatra utsavam, Swami inspite of noovu in the thirumeni (high fever) was always with Azhwan, taking care of the saathupadi (decoration, alankaarangal) and also general managing the utsavam. Such is Swami's kainkarya nishtai. This can be seen easily by anyone who would be Swami for even a day. Swami's acharya nishtai can be enjoyed by everyone who converses with Swami. One can always hear Swami saying "Acharyan Thiruvullam" for every single vinnappam or aagnai. Such a humble and sadha kainkarya shreemaan Has been doing nithya vaasam (statying) in Singaperumal Koil thirumaligai. The

thirumaligai is, or has been in quite a dilapidated state for a few years now. Swami inspite of His thirumeni noovu (bodily difficulties) has been staying there. But now, thirumaligai sishyargal under Acharya anugraham have begun the thiruppani (reconstruction/restoration) of the thirumaligai. Swami is also of the thiruvullam to have a small sannidhi for Thirumaligai Acharyargal and Emperuman. Adiyargal's help is very much needed and appreciated, so that the thiruppani can be finished quickly. Adiyargal are requested to follow the below link for further information.http://www.vedics.org/index.php?option=com_content & view=article & id=296:mudaliyandan-tirumalikai & catid=145:kaimkaryams-needing-supportAdiyen
