Introduction In the previous paasuram peyAzhvar established the difficulty in visualizing the lord with one's own efforts but at the same time the easiness in having the divine experience if the lord wishes so. Azhvar now proceeds to reiterate the same with one such divine happening. Commentary (paNdu) once upon a time, during the vamanavatara; (vulagam neerERRu) Lord Sriman Narayana, as vamana a small brahmachari boy went to mahabali and begged for getting his own property as alms. He with great pleasure accepted the water poured by mahabali in his hands as a practice indicative of getting the 3 feet land in alms from mahabali. (thAmarai padi vattam) Azhvar symbolizes world as a lotus. Lotus is of soft nature but there are rough and tough terrains viz., forests and mountains on the earth. But still azvar calls earth as a lotus inorder to give a soothing effect to the soft divine feet of the lord who measured it. (adivattaththAl aLappa) To measure the world shaped like a lotus the divine feet also grew into the same circular form. (mAgAyamAi nindRa mARkku) one who grew piercing through the andas. (mAl) exalted person, sarvEshvaran Otherwise mAl refers to the supreme lord who has a special feeling towards his devotees including Indra. Due to which he went to the extent of begging his own property from mahabali to make Indra happy. (neeNda mudivattam) Like a fast flowing river, swirling and flooding, the crown of the lord grew glittering with enormous light. (AgAyam moodaRuththu) Breaking through the upper worlds; (Andam pOi neeNdathE) The divine feet grew to reach the heavens and further went on growing reaching no bounds; Thus, Azhvar in this paasuram admires the love the lord had for his devotee that made him measure all the worlds though only 3 were under mahabali's control.
