The Thatvathtrayam

As per our philosophy thathvam-s are three i. chith -the sentient ii. achith -non-sentient and

iii. Esvarn -The Supreme.

Our vyAkyAna karthAs- at the most appropriate pAsuram-s bring out this, in the most befitting manner not only to establish that these are the three thathvam-s but also to bring home the point.

Here is one example.

In the penultimate pAsuram of TiruvAimohzi (10-10-10)

'sUzhndhaganRAzhndhUyarndha mudivil perum-pAzhEyOA,( note 1 )

Suzhndhadhanil periya para nan malarch SodhIYOA,(note 2)

Suzhndhadhanil periya SudargnAna inbamEaYOA..' (note 3)

சூழà¯à®¨à¯à®¤à®•னà¯à®±à®¾à®´à¯à®¨à¯à®¤à¯à®¯à®°à¯à®¨à¯à®¤ à®®à¯à®Ÿà®¿à®µà®¿à®²à¯ பெரà¯à®®à¯ பாழேழோ! ( note 1 )

சூழà¯à®©à¯à®¤à®¤à®©à®¿à®²à¯ பெரிய பர நன௠மலரà¯à®šà¯à®šà¯‹à®¤à¯€à®¯à¯‹! (note 2)

சூழà¯à®¨à¯à®¤à®¤à®©à®¿à®²à¯ பெரிய சà¯à®Ÿà®°à¯ ஞான௠இனà¯à®ªà®®à¯‡à®¯à¯‹!(note 3)

AzvAr,while narrating his own experiece narrates that the whole mass of land and other milky, way galaxy which goes down deep and up tall and encompasses around is further encompassed by the

Atman which is further encompassed by EmperumAn.

The prakruthi thathvam engulfs on all the ten directions- eight on the sides, one up and one down.

the Atman is bigger than this.

and The Supreme is bigger than these.

Here the words

Note 1: perum-pAzh-prakruti- is the achith thathvam-non-sentient

Note 2: para nan malarchOdhi is chith -sentient and

Note 3: sudar gnAna inbam is Eswara thathvam- The Suprme.

AzvAr just expressed these subtle terms perum-pAzh, para nan malarch Sodhi and sudar gnAna inbam.

It is Sri NampiLLai who 'considered the lines together' and then goes on to the next line of the pAsuram:

sUzhndhadhanil periya en ava.

சà¯à®´à¯à®¨à¯à®¤à®¤à®©à®¿à®²à¯ பெரிய என௠அவா

The desire of AzvAr for EmperumAn is bigger than the three mentioned above.

Sri NampiLLai clinches the meaning in one sentence. The text of the vyAkyAnam goes as follows

'thathvathrayathaiyum viLAkkolaik koNDu (note 4) avai kuLap paDiyAm padi peridhAna'

'ததà¯à®µà®¤à¯à®°à®¯à®¤à¯à®¤à¯ˆà®¯à¯à®®à¯ விளாகà¯à®•ொலைகà¯à®•ொணà¯à®Ÿà¯ அவை கà¯à®³à®ªà¯à®ªà®Ÿà®¿à®¯à®¾à®®à¯à®ªà®¤à®¿

பெரிதானà¯'

Note 4.: viLakkolai is piercing out due to sheer size.

For example if a dazan bananas is put in a small bag, the bananas will pierce open from different places of the bag, due to sheer size.

'The desire of AzvAr pierces the three thathvams'

Not only Sri NampiLlai summaraises the crux as thus but in this process also brings forth the three thathvams in our SampradhAyam.

svami NampiLLai thiruvadigaLEa charaNam.

SrI:

Dear Sriman Padmanabhan Swamy :

Thank you for your most enjoyable postings

on PoorvAchArya VyAkhyAnams . They are

very insightful and in my humble opinion

need to be shared widely and together

instead of spread out postings .

In this context , I have a request to make :

Can you consider a special ebook on

excerpts from Eedu with MaNipravALam Text

and your explanations on them . Sri PVP's

VyAkhyAnams can also be covered .

I can visualize a special ebook in

the SrI HayagrIvan seies for AasthikAs

to enjoy .

Please send me your email address

for us to discuss this proposal .
