Dear friends,

In SA, we consider Saturn a key indicator for things mined out of the

ground, including oil. Rahu has also been suggested as a likely

influence on oil. Mars, which rules industry, could also have some

influence on the price of oil possibly related to refining activity.

This week the price of oil has again shot upward. The transits which

could be influencing this outcome are as follows:

- Saturn, at 29° Cancer, has been transit conjunct Venus, now at 2°

Leo, since late last week.

- Rahu is transiting the sign Aquarius, owned by Saturn.

- Mars at 14° 30' Aries has become exactly transit aspected by Ketu at

14° 30' Leo.

Best wishes,

Thor

Oil prices surge close to $75 mark

NEW YORK (Reuters) -- Oil surged almost $2 to nearly $75 a barrel on

Thursday as fresh violence in Nigeria spurred supply concerns and

strong demand. Oil prices have risen over the past week as traders

fret over thin U.S. gasoline supplies. London crude rebounded after

sliding following U.S. government data that showed a crude supplies

rising and refiners ramping up gasoline output to meet summer holiday

driving demand. London Brent crude gained $1.76 to $74.81 a barrel at

1732 GMT. U.S. crude rose 32 cents to $71.73 a barrel.

Dear Thor,

From what I've seen, the Sa-Ve conj is the key.

Dear Thor and Vyas,

Per Shri Choudhry's writings we have to look to the dasas for general

trends and the transits for significant events.

We are left to try to understand/correlate the dasas with the various

long-term trends in politics and economics whereas the transits

identify the significant events.

With respect to the significance of Venus and Saturn as indicators for

oil, I note that since 1996 the SAMVA USA chart has been running the

main period of Venus which coincides with the decade long uptrend in

oil prices.

Here is a chart: http://www.wtrg.com/oil_graphs/oilprice1947.gif

Perhaps Saturn creates pressure points that lead to price spikes?

Or, perhaps there are two significators as Venus lords the 4th of

natural resources and Saturn, relatedly, signifies things mined from

the ground as Thor pointed out.

I would ask what influence, if any, the Mercury dasa had to the

previous spike in oil which occurred during the Iran/Iraq oil crisis

in the 1970's?

Regards,

Matt

Dear Matt,

Considering the dasha alone won't tell the trend for up or down with

appreciable accuracy. We must assess the sub-period lord's placement and

strength, both in natal and transit. The transit situation also superseeds

the expected dasha results.

Saturn also rules the masses. So, your 'pressure point' idea is along the

right lines. As Saturn moves into the other royal, more stable, and affluent

sign, Leo, its significations can benefit globally. The next 2.5 years will

be interesting to monitor global trends in this regard since the

strength/weakness of the Sun is better chartable over longer periods.

Regarding your question about the 70's, comparison of the charts of the

concerned countries will be insightful. Also, with globalization, the world

economy is becoming less and less dependant on what's happening in the US.

Another effect of globalization, previously discussed is the lack of

corelation between the country's natal and stock market. These markets have

all become intertwined.

Also, this is a link that may be interesting to you and others regarding oil

prices:

http://www.wtrg.com/prices.htm

It accounts for inflation.

Vyas,

Thank you for your excellent points. We are, to a degree, defining

the word " trend " differently as can be expected. My personal interest

was in the trends of many quarters or years and I can see your

perspective, just as viable, is towards the more immediate future of

several days or weeks.

Is there anything that we can look to with respect to longer term

trends if not the dasa periods?

I did some work on Saturn through the signs and placements in dusthana

houses and didn't find much there. Perhaps all the complexities of

the Triple Transit Triggers that occur obfuscate the picture from

anything simple...?

Nevertheless, the chart you pointed towards with the very long-term

chart of oil of over one hundred years was fascinating as it showed

oil at over $80 in 1869! Fascinatingly, that price spike also occurred

during a Mercury dasa much like the price spike of the 1980's...so I

am still inclined to believe there is something to be found here if we

keep looking.

To that point, in the SAMVA USA chart is the affliction of Saturn to

the MEP of the 7th house, wherein Mercury is placed and combusted,

activated during the dasa of Mercury? Of Saturn? I am not clear on

this point.

Professor writes that during the subperiod of a planet the

significations that are touched are 1) aspects/conjunctions to/from

planet, 2)house of placement and 3)mooltrikona house.

We are in total agreement on the global integration of capital

markets and ever-increasing correlation of same... Oil, however, will

affect each country differently depending upon its own reserves and

supply/demand balance and might be seen in the chart.

Thanks for your assistance and comments,

Matt

Vyas,

Thank you for your excellent points. We are, to a degree, defining

the word " trend " differently as can be expected. My personal interest

was in the trends of many quarters or years and I can see your

perspective, just as viable, is towards the more immediate future of

several days or weeks.

****YES, but the address here was to long term.

Is there anything that we can look to with respect to longer term

trends if not the dasa periods?

****IT all has to be integrated - the transit and dasha. This requires very

careful study.

I did some work on Saturn through the signs and placements in dusthana

houses and didn't find much there. Perhaps all the complexities of

the Triple Transit Triggers that occur obfuscate the picture from

anything simple...?

****IN the USA chart, the three other malefics will also come into play. One

route you may be well rewarded to explore is the stationary transit on the

MEP by Saturn and then asp/conj natal positions to them. Certainly, in every

time period, then entire chart must be looked at.

****EVEN a fully strong Me in the natal gives tensions in the sub period

since Me is often weak.

To that point, in the SAMVA USA chart is the affliction of Saturn to

the MEP of the 7th house, wherein Mercury is placed and combusted,

activated during the dasa of Mercury? Of Saturn? I am not clear on

this point.

**** BOTH. The main period Lord has influence of 20% and sub period lord

80%. You may expect alot of uneasiness in the Mercury main and sub periods

as Mercury is often weak in transit and it rules the rational mind and the,

'nerves' of the nation. As FM Saturn forms this association, the concern

will be about the significations of Saturn from the house ruling emotions

and speculation, in business, communication and trade from sources overseas.

****ALSO if the country's economy is based on oil production, things will be

opposite.

Thanks for your assistance and comments,

****YOU'RE welcome

Matt

Vyas,

OK, we may be onto something...I understand that there is a lot more

to consider than just the dasas. However, I want to be clear on one

point before moving onto the TTT influences which increase the

complexity manifold.

You indicated below that the affliction of natal Saturn to the Sun,

which combusts Mercury, and MEP of the 7th house would be " activated "

during the various subperiods of the planets involved.

Hence, if I have the logic correct, then during the subperiods of

Saturn, Sun or Mercury the affliction of Saturn to the Sun causes

problems to Mercury and may account for the reason that the two huge

price spikes of the past century both occurred during Mercury dasas.

From here perhaps we can begin to see the TTT influences that during

the Mercury dasas any transit malefic influences to natal/transit

Saturn, Sun or Mercury of the MEPs of their houses of placement and

mooltrikona signs would like to problems on the oil front.

What it doesn't answer is why similar price spikes didn't occur in the

dasas of the Sun or Saturn....?

Is this a reasonable basis for a start to ongoing research?

Oil is a critical component for the US economy. I am hopeful we can

get a predictive handle on this issue and that is why I labor us both.

Matt

**** No, it's the close affliction of Sa to H7 and combustion of Me that

gives tension to Me, not affliction of the Sun by Sa. If Me was in Leo, it

would be correct.

****My answer above addresses why it doesn't occur in the Sun periods.

Regarding the Saturn periods, we must note that Saturn is a more stable

planet taking 2.5 years to transit a sign. In the last Sa MD, Saturn

transited from the 4H to the 10H. The only bad placement was in '58, but Ju

was well placed in Li. In the Sun period, the status and income of the

nation would face some obstructions.

Is this a reasonable basis for a start to ongoing research?

****You've started correctly and have made a key observation about the Me

MD. The TTT situation takes precedence and we mate this with the period L.

This is how to predict the trends with best accuracy. Also, BOTH the general

and particular significations must ALWAYS be noted. When parallel

significations are touched, then that area is brought to the forefront.

Oil is a critical component for the US economy. I am hopeful we can

get a predictive handle on this issue and that is why I labor us both.

***I don't mind in the least! In fact it's encouraged that this discussion

is going on. Cheers.
