Om Brihaspataye namahDear Sanjay P, There is another list of the adhi & pratyadhi devata which are slightly different. For Sun pratyadhi devata is given as Shiva and for Budha Narayana, rest are the same.Thus, one careful glance at the list of the remedies given for Saturn antardasa will clearly bring out Maharishi Parasara's basic focus on the Mrityunjaya mantra. The Mantra is addressed to Lord Shiva the pratyadhi devata of the Sun. Actually what happens is that during the periods of the planets in the 2nd or 7th house, they behave like Venus in its natural role of the lord of the 2nd and 7th house of the natural zodiac. Such planets destroy the life energy symbolised by the Sun as the representative of Lord Shiva among Graha and can cause death. Since the problem pertains to the planets acquiring the natural charecteristics of Venus and becoming offensive to Lord Shiva, the solution lies in the recitation of Mrityunjaya mantra that was taught to Venus (Sukra-acharya) by Lord Shiva so absolve him of all sins. By why does Maharishi give this as a remedy for saturn antardasa? Thats because Saturn indication of the depletion of life forces and has digbala in 7th house. In fact the recitation of the Mrityunjaya mantra will remove all sins indicated by the natural significations of Venus, Mercury and Saturn as well. The other remedies of donation etc are in relation to the 12th house and Upapada but in this Kali yuga, do this with care and donations of animals should be made to people who will look after them.
