Namaste Sanjayji,

I've just started reading your book COVA. Please accept my heartiest congratulations for writing such a wonderful book which gives knowledge of all the 12 houses with corresponding divisional charts and dasas.

While reading the chapter on "FIRST HOUSE", I got some basic doubts. Please throw some light on them.

1. In JawaharLal Nehru chart, on page 65, you've mentioned - Both Mahapadma yoga and Guru-chandala yoga functioned simultaneously.

Jupiter with ketu is breaking the KAY, so this gives MahaPadma yoga, it's ok. But how Guru-Chandala yoga. Conjunction of Jupiter and Ketu, the two spiritual planets, is very good for spirtuality. This really makes the person saint. Guru-Chandala yoga is conjunction of Jupiter with Rahu. Is there any wrong in my understanding here or I'm missing something? Please guide me.

2. Regarding aspect of Rahu and Ketu (planetary aspect).

Ketu is a headless planet, so it does not cast any planetary aspect on any house / planet. But Rahu has head. Different books gives different rules. Some says only 7th while others say 5th and 9th also.

Does Rahu give its 5th, 7th and 9th aspect or something else?

3. On Page no. 70, regarding chart no. 15, you've mentioned - "the dasa of Saturn, conjoining the yogakaraka Mars has only added to his fortunes."

How come Mars becomes the yogakaraka planet for Pisces lagna. Yogakaraka is the ruler of both quadrant and a trine. Here, Mars is the 9th and 2nd lord. Can we say, 9th lord is also a yogakaraka planet?

Thanks

Rath: Namaskar. Thank you and hope to improve on the printing quality and blunders in the next edition.

"1. In JawaharLal Nehru chart, on page 65, you've mentioned - Both Mahapadma yoga and Guru-chandala yoga functioned simultaneously.

Rath: Guru is also the ninth lord out here and is aspected by Rahu. This causes guru-chandala Yoga by mutual aspect between the two of Rahu & Jupiter. The person shall be quite heterodox and shall not follow the traditional knowledge, questioning its validity and modifying it to his own whims and fancies - is the reading for this. This can also indicate dental problems.

Does Rahu give its 5th, 7th and 9th aspect or something else?"

Rath: Rahu aspects the 5,7 & 9 like Jupiter and in addition, also has a full aspect on the 2nd house (actually 12th house counted in the reverse).

Rath: The Yoga is caused by any planet that can have a SAMBANDHA with the Yoga-Lakshmi. Yoga-Lakshmi are the lords of the fifth and ninth houses and these houses are considered the houses of Lakshmi. On the other hand the Lords of the Kendra are considered akin to Narayana (please use this name instead of Vishnu as the latter is used for the second Lord) the Yogeshwara indicating the purpose of the Yoga.

There is a nice story about the great Lord Jagannath having to go begging for His food after Lakshmi left His house due to Lord Balarama. Thereafter the Lord Jagannath had to plead with Her (again at the behest of Balarama) and Lakshmi returned. Chanakya Niti teaches

(1) that without Ayana the Nara is just like an Animal (Nara+ Ayana make him like Narayana else he is an animal). These Ayana giving planets are the lords of the Kendra (and also those in kendra houses 1,4,7 & 10) and

(2) that without Lakshmi, none of the Ayana can be achived. The Lakshmi giving planets are the lords of the trines (and also those in the trines 5 & 9 houses).

If one, two or more planets conjoin, aspect each other (by Graha Drishti) or have any of the Sambandha (relationships), they Generate a Yoga or UNION. If in such a Yoga the Lords of a KENDRA and TRIKONA are involved then that becomes a vital or crucial Yoga in the chart as there is the link between Narayana and Lakshmi. Such planet(s) become Yogakaraka. There is a lot to be learnt about a single planet getting this rulership of two or more getting this. Yogakaraka are planets with the potency of generating a Yoga either suo moto or with association depending on whether they own both KENDRA & TRIKONA or just one. They become Yogakaraka if they are involved in such a Yoga.

Every Lagna has these potential Yogakaraka. There are three groups of YOGI planets: (1) Sun, Rahu & Mercury (2) Moon, Jupiter and Ketu and (3) Mars, Venus and Saturn. Of these, the third group is the one that is capable of generating Yoga SUO MOTO merely by placement. Mars is such a Karaka for the Luminaries and Saturn and Venus are for each other.

I think you had this in mind while making the question. There is a lot more to Yoga's. I am finishing here having given enough food for thought. try these assignments:

1. List all the Yogakaraka for each lagna, clearly specyfying the nature of the Ayana and Lakshmi's form (one of the Asta Lakshmi).

2. Under what circumstances will these give Yoga and when?

3. Will every person born in Taurus Lagna have yoga during Saturn dasa? What is the condition for the Suo moto Yogakaraka to give Yoga.

4. Are Yoga's altered by placement? If so, explain with illustration.

5. Are the lords of dusthana also Yogakaraka? Under what circumstances can they become Yogakaraka?

6. Is Yoga only seen from Lagna or also from Sun & Moon Lagna?

7. Who is the Karyesha for (a) Rajyoga, (b) Duryoga © Yogabhanga (d) Daridrayoga (e) Yoga Rakshaka (protection of yoga) (f) Vidya yoga (g) Tapaswi Yoga (i) Dhana Yoga (j) Santana Yoga.

With Best Wishes

Om Krishna Guru

Namaste Sanjayji,

Thanks for guiding me and giving a ray of light in the path of doubts. Your reply really gave a good food to think for so many days. And make me realize that still I've to learn lot of basics first before moving to learning different houses.

Just one little doubt over the topic Guru-Chandala yoga and aspect of Rahu.

You said "This causes guru-chandala Yoga by mutual aspect between the two of Rahu & Jupiter. "

Conjunction of Jupiter with Ketu is a combination of two spiritual planets. In that case, Rahu will always aspect them (7th aspect - planetary and not through rashi drishti) as Rahu is always 180 degrees away from Ketu. But this will not make Guru-Chandala yoga.

Can we conclude that GURU-CHANDALA yoga forms when Rahu aspects ONLY through Rasi drishti on Jupiter or when there is a conjunction of Rahu-Jupiter.

Now, with my limited knowledge, here is my attempt to answer other questions.

3. Will every person born in Taurus Lagna have yoga during Saturn dasa? Whatis the condition for the Suo moto Yogakaraka to give Yoga.

In Taurus lagna, Saturn is the lord of trine (9th house) as well as kendra (10th house). So, Saturn becomes yogakaraka for this lagna. But it is NOT necessary that every person born in Taurus lagna have yoga duing Saturn dasa.

If Saturn is associated with lord of dusthanas, they will spoil the results of Saturn.

Also, Saturn is a bhadhakesh for Taurus lagna. So, it's bound to give struggles also during its dasa.

It also depends upon the placement of Saturn in divisional charts also, especially in D-9. It should not lose its strength in respective divisional chart.

Transit plays very important role for the fructification of yogas. In trasit, Saturn should be having enough strength during the native's Saturn dasa.

But here, Saturn placement in 12th house (Aries) is considered good. Saturn is the karaka for dusthana and if it is placed in another dushana and that too, in debilitity, it will spoil the significance of 6,8,11 houses and gives very good results.

4. Are Yoga's altered by placement? If so, explain with illustration.Yes. I'm taking a example of Gaja-Kesari yoga here.

Gaja-Kesari yoga (GKY) is formed when Jupiter is in kendra from Moon. Now, if Jupiter is in 7th from Moon, this GKY is good for conjugal bliss, curb over-indulgence in sex; while if Jupiter is in 10th from Moon, this yoga is favourable for career prospects, idealism and spiritual pursuits etc.

If the yoga forming in the signs ruled by Mars (Ar, Sc), it will give power and aggression while in the signs ruled by Venus, it gives beauty and artistry.

If the yoga involved Dharma trikona houses, the virtous pursuits dominate karma; while with Moksha trikona houses, it gives spiritual progress.

Also, the yoga depends upon the lordship of Moon and Jupiter. In case of Cancer lagna, Moon is lagna lord and Jupiter is 9th lord. The conjunction of Moon and Jupiter in Cancer lagna is the best state of GKY as here Jupiter will get exalted and Moon will be in its own house. The scene becomes total different if the lagna is Virgo. Here, Moon is functional malefic as the lord of 11th house and Jupiter is also functional malefic as it suffers from Kendradhipatya dosha.

5. Are the lords of dusthana also Yogakaraka? Under what circumstances canthey become Yogakaraka?

Yes, if they occupy dusthanas or conjoin with dusthana lords. The dusthanas (3,6,8,11) are known as bad houses. If, they occupy dusthana that means they themselves are coming under affliction, that gives benefit to native. This is called Vipareeta Raja yoga. and this is where lords of dusthana can become yogakarka.

Ofcourse, there will be some initial struggles because the yoga involves dusthana and/or dusthana lords.

But the condition for the fructification of this raja yoga is that the planet involved should either a) be weak by placement in a dusthana or in debility in rasi / navamsa or b) very strong in kendra / trikona & simultaneously transfer the power to lord of lagna by conjunction or aspect.

6. Is Yoga only seen from Lagna or also from Sun & Moon Lagna?Yogas are generally seen from lagna unless specified in yoga itself in classics. e.g. Sarawati yoga, Pravrajya yoga, Panch MahaPurush yoga, Shakti yoga are seen from lagna. Adhi yoga, Sakata yoga are seen from Moon. Veshi, Voshi yogas are seen from Sun.

But yogas cannot fructify fully unless Sun and Moon have strength. Sun should be strong for the starting of the yoga while Moon should be strong for the sustenance of the yoga. If they are weak, the yoga will give just small results during their dasa.

7. Who is the Karyesha for (a) Rajyoga, (b) Duryoga © Yogabhanga (d)Daridrayoga (e) Yoga Rakshaka (protection of yoga) (f) Vidya yoga (g)Tapaswi Yoga (i) Dhana Yoga (j) Santana Yoga.

Seems little difficult (or rather confusing one). But I'll try.

Rajyoga requires the strength of both Sun and Moon to fructify fully. Sun should have sufficient strength to start the yoga while Moon should have strength to sustain the yoga.

Yogabhanga results when the exalted planet in rasi is in debilitation in navamsa. So, here the planet itself is responsible for its fall. ( I'm not much clear here.)

Daridra yoga: This is formed when lagna, lagna lord, 2nd house / lord, 11house / lord and especially trines and their lords are afflicted by dusthanas and / or marka planets. So, here Karyesha becomes dusthanas / their lords and marka planets.

Tapaswi yoga: All the three - Ketu, Saturn and Venus. Ketu gives spirituality and moksha. Saturn gives detachment, hard-work. and Venus will gives sincerity.

Yoga Rakshaka - Here the planets involved to boost the results of the yoga. e.g. Shubha-kartari yoga will strengthen the house / planet / yoga around which they're forming the yoga. (still in doubt)

Dhan yoga - lords of trines and Jupiter (karaka for wealth, assets)

Duryoga, Vidya yoga, Santana yoga - I've not studied these yogas till now, but I think it should be Jupiter (karaka for children) for Santana yoga.

I think these yogas are explained in your Gemini Sutras book. I'll start reading that book very soon.

1. List all the Yogakaraka for each lagna, clearly specyfying the nature ofthe Ayana and Lakshmi's form (one of the Asta Lakshmi).

I'm still not much clear about the extent of yogakarka defination after that it is the lord of trine as well as lord of kendra.

Mars, Saturn and Venus can become yogakarka in case of Cancer, Taurus, Capricorn lagna.

Rahu and Ketu can also become yogakarka when they occupy the trikona and associate with the kendra lord OR when they occupy the kendra and associate with trikona lord.

I could not go further from here or rather I should say I could not understand after it. Please guide me here.

Like, how Sun or Moon be a yogakarka planet. Yes, Sun is good for Scorpio lagna. As a kendra lord, it will lose its malificiency nature and is good for karma sthan (10th house). Moon is 9th lord here. and its asoociation with kendra lord (Sun) will give raja yoga. But how do we place the term yogakarka here.

Please throw some more light on yogakarkas and guide us.

With Due respect.

Dear Gopal,

My comments are below. The replies which were fully satisfactory have been removed as further discussion is not necessary.

You wrote: Just one little doubt over the topic Guru-Chandala yoga and aspect of Rahu.

Can we conclude that GURU-CHANDALA yoga forms when Rahu aspects ONLY through Rasi drishti on Jupiter or when there is a conjunction of Rahu-Jupiter.

Rath: Apply yourself. Can Jupiter and Rahu aspect each other all the time with Rasi Drishti when they are in mutual seventh house???

Q.Will every person born in Taurus Lagna have yoga during Saturn dasa? What is the condition for the Suo moto Yogakaraka to give Yoga.

You wrote: In Taurus lagna, Saturn is the lord of trine (9th house) as well as kendra (10th house). So, Saturn becomes yogakaraka for this lagna. Rath: You assume that the weak Saturn CANNOT give yoga. Please rethink on this. Later you accept that saturn in debility for Taurus in the 12th house gives the best Yoga. Clear up your confusion by making notes..when you write the matter shall become clear. If DUKHA is less in life, I think it is good.

You wrote: Transit plays very important role for the fructification of yogas. In trasit, Saturn should be having enough strength during the native's Saturn dasa.

Rath: Which strength are you speaking of, or is this just a general statement? General statements are not helpful in making predictions. Dr Raman gives about 10% results for transits.

But here, Saturn placement in 12th house (Aries) is considered good. Saturn is the karaka for dusthana and if it is placed in another dushana and that too, in debilitity, it will spoil the significance of 6,8,11 houses and gives very good results.

The scene becomes total different if the lagna is Virgo. Here, Moon is functional malefic as the lord of 11th house and Jupiter is also functional malefic as it suffers from Kendradhipatya dosha.

Rath: Well, first question - why is the name Gajakesari chosen and who is Gaja and who is Kesari among Moon and Jupiter. Who are the deities involved and why not Sun & Jupiter?? I can give two chart of Gajakesari Yoga in the eighth house for Virgo Lagna giving superb results. Both inherited massive properties from their father.

Rath: Satyacharya says the Dasa results are seen from Sun, antardasa from Moon and Pratyantar from lagna. Will this mean Yoga fructifies only at the pratyantar level? In fact all Yoga's should be examined from the Sun, Moon and Lagna to determine their exact impact.

But yogas cannot fructify fully unless Sun and Moon have strength. Sun should be strong for the starting of the yoga while Moon should be strong for the sustenance of the yoga. If they are weak, the yoga will give just small results during their dasa.

Rath: Very good point.

***Jaya Jagannath***Dear Sarajit

Trine is Lakshmi in the sense of giving the money and material necessary for attaining the Ayana determined from the Kendra. Here is the generalisation about the trines and Kendra.

The ninth house is perforce the Vishnu Sthana as the Lagna is Brahma Sthana as their primary activity or matters are Dharma and birth. fortune or succor is a consequence of Dharma and not vice versa. So, ninth is first a Vishnu sthana. that is why I had also requested others to use the name Narayana for the Kendra-trikona Yoga concept to avoid confusions like these.

Hare Rama Krsna

Pranaam Gurudev!

In one of the classes, I said that the 9th house is ruled by Laxmi... However you insisted that 9th is ruled by Vishnu. When you asked where I got the information. I said from Narasimha's books/ mails... you said people with virgo/ Aquarius Lagna have the natural tendency to call the 9th as laxmi sthana :-).

As the sthana for dharma, it should be Vishnu sthna. However can we say that being a trine, it is ruled by Laxmi?
