AUM SRI GURUVE NAMAH

Dear Gauranga and Jaan!

For Narayana Dasa, the 3 sources of strengths are to be measures successively and they are not be used all at a time and then find their combined result. If the first source fails to decide the stronger between the two, then only the second source of strength is used and so on.

The use of Different Strengths are as follows:1st source: Narayana Dasa2nd source: Navamsa dasa, Chara Dasa, Narayana Dasa3rd source: Atmakaraka Kendradi Rasi/ Graha dasaLagna kendradi Rasi/ Graha dasa4th source: All ayur dasa

The differnt sources are

1st Source:

a) Sign in which atmkaraka is placed.b) Sign conjoined with more planets.

c) Exaltation/ own housed) Dual sign> Fixed sign> Movable sign.e) Sign having atmakaraka as its lord.f) Sign whose lord is advanced more in degrees.g) Odd sign is stronger if its lord is placed in even sign and vice versa.

2nd SourceAspect or conjunction of its lord, the atmakaraka, Jupiter, or Mercury (Used in Chara and Navamsa Dasa)

3rd SourcePlacement of the lord of a sig from atakaraka the strength will decline if the sign lord is placed in the following signs:Quadrant > Succeedent (Panaphara)> Precedent (Apokima)Used in Lagna Kendradi Graha/ Rasi Dasa and Atmakaraka Kendradi Graha/ Rasi Dasa

4th Source:Conjuction/Aspect/ Ownership of Malefics (Used in Ayur Dasa for determining the sign which can inflict death)

As per my experience, Gurudeva> used the 1st source of strength in determminig the starting Rasi for Narayan> Dasa. This is to some extent confirmed in the notes to Sutra 2.4.7. : "The> stronger sign between the ascendant and the seventh house as per the sources> of strength vide ch. II Qarter 3 shall initiate the Narayana Dasas." So> because the word "sources" is in plural, I inferred that 1st source is also> used in Narana Dasa.> > But you are right, in the quotes that you gave, it is hinted that they are> exclusive. 2.4.1. really specifies the 2nd source for Chara and Navamsa> Dasa. So would Narayan Dasa be an exceprion from this rule?> > Or my other guess is that certain sources of strength should be used as> primary in certain dasas. Thus for Navamsa dasa e.g. We usae the 2nd source,> but if that does not decide, we go to the 3rd one and use that.
