This is an interesting question, and I think that it will need elucidation

from Sanjayji himself or other Jyotish Gurus. As per my experience, Gurudeva

used the 1st source of strength in determminig the starting Rasi for Narayan

Dasa. This is to some extent confirmed in the notes to Sutra 2.4.7. : " The

stronger sign between the ascendant and the seventh house as per the sources

of strength vide ch. II Qarter 3 shall initiate the Narayana Dasas. " So

because the word " sources " is in plural, I inferred that 1st source is also

used in Narana Dasa.

But you are right, in the quotes that you gave, it is hinted that they are

exclusive. 2.4.1. really specifies the 2nd source for Chara and Navamsa

Dasa. So would Narayan Dasa be an exceprion from this rule?

Or my other guess is that certain sources of strength should be used as

primary in certain dasas. Thus for Navamsa dasa e.g. We usae the 2nd source,

but if that does not decide, we go to the 3rd one and use that. I think that

we all would need a clariffication on the use of the sources of strength. I

would form the questions as follows:

1. Which source of strength should be used for which dasa?

2. Is it to be used exclusively (i.e. the other sources of strength are

simply dropped)?

3. If not, then what is the order of using the other sources for the

different dasas?

I hope we get an answer on this.
