Do you mean that ginger and black pepper > would further aggravate this? I tried those today, and ginger seems to > have further aggravated my hunger If there are kapha-related toxins in the system, body's natural (and healthy) reaction is to drive them away. One does not feel like eating and feels full. Extra bile secretions are generated to fight the toxins in the digestive system. This can result in a vomiting. If this is the case, using ginger, pepper etc stimulates the bile secretions more and the toxin clean-up takes place efficiently. Now suppose the problem is not kapha-related toxins, but extra pitta in the digestive system. Then extra bile secretions are generated and the person usually has a strong appetite. When his appetite is not satisfied, the extra bile secretions are unused and this can give some vomiting and nausea. In this case, pitta increasing spices like pepper make things worse. Cooling spices and herbs that pacify pitta are more suitable in this case. I think extra pitta or kaphic ama was the reason for vomiting when fasting in your case, but it can even be vaata! If samaana vaata is disturbed and the digested food is not properly assimilated for an extended period, this can create a chain reaction from the bottom and finally result in vomiting. In this case, vaata must be cleared. (But this is not the case with your vomiting.) > pmn> In the case of pitta induced vomiting, taking pomegranate juice > pmn> or pineapple juice with cardamom seeds (elachi) can be helpful > pmn> during the fasting. I am a little confused now as I > cannot determine whether I need to passify my Pitta, or Kapha first... You will know after trial and error. Coriander leaves, lemon juice, cardamom and cumene seeds are good when fasting, for people with strong appetites. Moreover, you can take raw fruits like apples. For fasting, cooked food is unacceptable, but raw food is fine. You can eat raw vegetables and fruits. They disturb vaata and may be unsuitable for vaata persons, but raw fruits should be fine for you. You can try raw vegetables too, but don't try vegetables like carrots that can aggravate pitta a little. When pitta people fast, they should not push themselves to the limit at once. They can do it gradually. > Vahe May Jupiter's light shine on us, Narasimha
