Namaste, I can use some help here....

Calculating the Varnada Dasa , the first step is to find the Varnada Rasi , hence my question:

Pls. confirm that my approach to this calculation is correct - the text in the BPHS (*GS Sharma) say's one thing

then gives an example using a slightly different approach... here's my understanding to calculate the Varnada sign

and an example ( at the bottom of the page) to demonstrate.

 

 

Assess the natal Lagna. Determine if the Rasi is in a:

Odd Sign

Even Sign

If Lagna is:

Odd sign - count the number of signs from Aries (zodiacally) to the Lagna Even sign – count the signs in reverse order (counter –zodiacally) from Pisces to the Lagna Note the number

Assess the Hora Lagna. Determine if the HL is:

Odd sign - count the number of signs from Aries to the HL Even sign – count the signs in reverse order from Pisces to the HL Note the number

If the numbers calculated for the distance to the Lagna & HL are:

Both odd or both even, and then add the two numbers together. If one is odd and the other is even, then find the difference (subtract one from the other) Note the number and use it in step 5. If the number is larger then 12, then expunge 12 from the number. Note the remainder. Use this remainder in step 5.

Now, if the number found in step 4 is:

Odd – count the number of signs from Aries (zodiacally). You will arrive at the Varnada sign Even – count the number of signs from Pisces (counter –zodiacally). You will arrive at Varnada sign

Example: ( Courier font for the chart)

1. Lagna (Sc) is Even Rasi2. From Pisces, 5 signs3. HL ( Ta) is even; 11 signs from Pisces4. Both numbers are ODD, add them together; = 16, Expunge 12, with a remainder of 4.5. The remainder of 4 or is even, therefore count from Pisces ( counter –zodiacally). The Varnada sign = Sag.
