Try fasting on rice and water during the day first. When sunset comes you

can break this fast.

Om Gurave NamahDear Gary,

Fasting actually is called Vrata and 'Anna-sanna'; Vrata as it implies a solemn vow or promise of spiritual disciplene like a mantra recital or a pooja to be done on a regular basis. Anna-sanna implies fasting from grains and specifically rice. Thus, once rice is consumed, then the fast is broken. If it is very difficult to keep a complete fast, advise the consumption of 'Uncooked food' like fruits and salads.

Best Wishes

All glories to Sri Guru and Gauranga:

Pranams Gomes:

the following will answer your question

The eleventh day after a new Moon or full Moon the Vrat observed on

this day is called the Ekadashi DAY.

In all 24 Ekadashi fasts are observed in a year. It is believed that

Lord Vishnu transformed himself into Ekadashi to alleviate the

mankind from sins. It is day looked upon Lord Hari himself.

According to the Puranas, a demon named called Mura, who had 7,000

sons, harassed the gods. The gods asked Vishnu for protection against

Mura; Vishnu sent his Yog Maya (Indriyas) to kill the demon and his

sons, and these was done successfully.

Lord Hari granted Yoga Maya a boon, and said " Those who observe

Ekadashi will be freed from all sins, and you will be called by the

name Ekadashi. " Since the demon was created from the sweat that fell

down from the head of Brahma it assumed the from of a demon and said

to the Lord, " O Lord! Now give me an abode to dwell " . Brahma

replied, " O demon! Go and dwell in the rice particles and cereals

eaten by men on Ekadashi day and become worms in their stomach. " This

is a short story as narrated in our Holy Scriptures.

Hope that helps best wishes

Namaste,

just a note:

My wife has excess Kapha and what helps her is fresh ginger...(with a pinch of salt)

she uses it before a meal to start agni for digestion....

Brendan also suggested warm water .... with a little fresh squeezed lemon in the water does the trick.

Good heath to you all,

Bpfeeley [bpfeeley]Thursday, March 22, 2001 10:21 PMvarahamihira Subject: [Jaya Jagannath] Please help: FastingHare KrishnaPranaams Vahe,Thanks for sending me your chart. It clearly indicates a K imbalance. There are eight general signs of a Kapha imbalance: nausea, lethargy, heaviness of body and mind, white complexion, chills, congestion and excessive sleeping.Kapha resides in the stomach and chest and also in the plasma (rasa dhatu) and liquids in the body. Your body is trying to get rid of excess K. Pungent and bitter taste reduce Kapha, so please add about 6-8 black pepper corns to the Kitchari. You could also chew on the occassional black pepper corns through the day of fasting. Trikatu (pippali, ginger, black pepper) is excellent for K.In Panchakarma Vamana (vomiting) is induced to rid the stomach of excess Kapha. You are spontaenously going into this mode without the use of therapuetic agents. The purpose of PK is to remove AMA and excess dosha from the digestive tract. You are in Venus/Venus/Saturn right now and Saturn is in your 5th house/Pisces which rules the stomach and transiting Saturn is aspecting your 5th lord by degree. It indicates some disorder in the digestive power - agni. Also look at Venus/Venus/Saturn in your D-6!Regards,BrendanOM TAT SATArchive: varahamihiraInfo: varahamihira/info.html

Om Gurave NamahDear Brendan,

You can give us a recommendation of other uncooked foods for this purpose.

That was a very helpful post. I find that the Moon sign has a lot to say about the Prakriti like the Lagna. Any inputs on this?

Best regards

Sanjay Rath

Vata types should be careful with fasting as fasting disturbs V and should only be done for very short periods of time if at all. Even fasting on raw fruits and veggies is dangerous for V. They are full of akasha and yes, the person may experience wonderful sense of lightness and "spiritual" well being but it is dangerous for V.P and K people can tolerate fasting and K people especially can benefit greatly from it. V people should fast on small amounts of V reducing Kitchari.I saw a person once who suffered severe depression during the winter months... so called seasonal depression. She was eating raw fruits and vegetables as 50% of her food intake. The cold winter months aggravate V and hot cooked food with appropriate spices to stimulate Agni is needed to offset that. Once she started eating balanced food for her prakruti she became a happy person.Regards,Brendan> Om Gurave Namah> Dear Gary,> Fasting actually is called Vrata and 'Anna-sanna'; Vrata as it implies a > solemn vow or promise of spiritual disciplene like a mantra recital or a > pooja to be done on a regular basis. Dear Gauranga das,

Reason it won't come out on a test is because most of the tests are

addressing the physical constitution and not manas prakruti/vikruti. Gemini

is a tridoshic rasi and Mercury is tridoshic graha. Yes, Moon has K but also

V depending on influences and new moon/full moon, etc. It is changeable = V,

watery, soft and affectionate = K.

Brendan

Om Gurave NamahDear Hanna,

Read my book Vedic remedies carefully and you will realise that at all points, examples, explanation for Hora (life) and trimsamsa( evils) etc, I have explained the importance of this Mantra. This is too long to reproduce here. suffice is to say that a person reciting this regularly shall have communion with bhagavan. It has a power that cannot be competed nor expressed in words.

Best regards

Don't persist with full day fasting, but you can fast till Noon at least. Recite the mantra "Hare Rama Krishna" 1,008 times and see the difference. Dear Sanjay ji,what is the strength in this mantra as you have recommended it before to me also. By the way full day fasting on bananas and dates is not at all difficult. regards......hanna OM TAT SATArchive: varahamihiraInfo: varahamihira/info.html
