|| Om Gurave Namah ||Dear Jyotishas, Following is an interesting news item. News, Such as these, makes me think about ways to reduce/remove such cheats. (I think this cannot be totally eliminated, Can the Sun (Jyotisha) ever escape an eclipse?)

All Learned Jyotishas, should try to educate the common men about basics of Jyotish so they do not fall in the traps of such Jyotish. Educating more people about Jyotish is the only way.Warm RegardsSanjay P

Kalam 'jyotishi' failed to read his own future The Mahim police on Tuesday arrested a wannabe astrologer who has duped

hundreds of people by claiming to be President APJ Abdul Kalam's

personal forecaster. Shriram Ramrao Kulkarni alias Gokul Ramrao

Satpute, 37, who ran his Balaji Jyotishalaya from a plush office in

Mahim, had a huge picture of his with President Kalam, morphed at a

photo studio in Vashi for Rs 130, placed prominently at the entrance.

He would tell his clients that the President often sought his guidance

while dealing with matters of national importance. Many

fell for the trick. The police now have in their possession a fat diary

with names and numbers of Satpute's clients. " His morphed connection

with the President of India seemed to have worked. The list of his

clients is long and phone numbers and addresses tell us that people

flocked to him from far-off places, " said investigating officer API

Jayavant Chauhan. The police have also recovered a

closed-circuit TV camera and some recording equipment from Satpute's

office. "We suspect he may have recorded his interactions with women

clients and then used the same to blackmail them. We are looking into

this angle too," Senior Inspector Joe Gaekwad said.Receipt

books detailing the occult services Satpute offered, calendars and

other publicity material of Balaji Jyotishalaya have been seized.Satpute's luck ran out when one of his clients, Chetan Vitthal Mahadik,

24, lodged a complaint of cheating with the Mahim police.Mahadik

had approached Satpute after coming across an advertisement for Balaji

Jyotishalaya in a newspaper. "The first thing that struck when I

entered Satpute's office was this picture where he is seen holding

President Kalam's hand. He told me he knew Kalam for many years. The

picture looked real. I was impressed," Mahadik told Mumbai Mirror on

Wednesday.Satpute, however, had some disturbing news for

Mahadik. He said a tantrik had put a curse on Mahadik and that he would

die in a few days' time if corrective measures were not taken quickly.

He suggested a puja in a crematorium amidst burning pyres. A shaken

Mahadik paid Rs 10,000 up front to Satpute and another Rs 5000 a few

days before the puja."Satpute took me to the crematorium at

Ghatkopar. He told me he had powers to communicate with the dead. After

the puja he demanded Rs 50,000 more. That is when I grew suspicious and

approached Mahim police," said Mahadik. The cops picked up Satpute and

one of his accomplices, Jitendra Borje, the same day.Satpute's

father, Ramrao Satpute, also was an astrologer. But the father

disappeared under mysterious circumstances eight months ago and the son

took over the practice.Senior Inspector Gaekwad said his men

have begun to establish contact Satpute's clients. "It's going to take

time because the list is long. But very soon we will have all details

of what Satpute was up to in the past eight months and how many people

he has fooled using President Kalam's name," he said.
