doubt in donation of items:WHEAT GRAINS

Hi all

 

It is told that we must donate " wheat grains " for

appeasing Lord-Sun. Can we donate " wheat-flour

" (called as Atta in north india) OR donation is

strictly in form of wheat-grain.

Dear Angel,

If my recollection is correct, Markadeya Purana states that once Surya was having his amrita and some of that fell to Earth and became the sali rice. Hence rice is dear to the Sun.

 

In my offerings I normally am selective in this, and pick out broken grains. So definitely not grains that are grounded. Where did you get Sun = Wheat from?

I read on website " webduniya.com " (it is hindi

website). I read in one of the articles that to

appease Sun God,we must donate " Wheat " (among other

things) on sundays to temples/place of worship.

Tell me another thing->

<a> to appease venus,we are supposed to donate

" rice " . Please confirm.

<b> to appease moon,we must donate milk + rice on

mondays.Also worship " Shiv Linga " . Please confirm.

In the Amavasya Dosha chapter Parashara

recommends to add the pancharatna to the kalasha. I have searched through

various online resources and there is a big difference of opinion about what

these five gems are. I found the Kapila Muni temple in Bengal offering one set,

a Durga Puja offering another and various gem sellers giving even different

variations, some that even considered ‘gold’ as one of the ‘ratna’.

Do you know of any valid references for

what the five gems are? My guess would be the gems corresponding to the planets

ruling the 5 elements- but this is just a guess from some of the information I

have come across.

Dear Angel,

These are household remedial mesures which I have seen been used over the years, I do not know if there is a Jyotish basis for them. I do not know whether they are of any benefit either.

These include:

Sun- donating wheat and gur( jaggery), perhaps the golden brown color is a reason

Moon- white dough and boiled rice, note the white color

Jupiter- yellow colored sweets

Saturn- black daal

Mercury- green daal

Venus- sweet milk, sweet rice

Dear Sharat, Namaskar

There is a Jyotish basis without doubt. Vashista and many other rishis

advise the offering of sesame seeds/oil to avert health problems. We

just need someone to put some effort into understanding the effects of

each offering and when it is to be used.
