Hare Rama Krishna,

Dear Pierre, Namaskar

no mater how hard I try, I have difficulty making any sense out of your words.

If you read your sentence structure, most every statement you make in your "piece" is as mutually contradictory as it is irrelevant to the subject matter at hand.

However it seems to irritate the living daylight out of you that some good Catholics (and other christians) study Vedic scriptures and have become scholars of the same, and even more, that some Christians leave (horror of horrors) the Christian religion and convert. (Even way back 150 years ago!!!)

Yes, I am NOT a Roman Catholic. True. But this does't disqualify me for having known-in person- some Catholic monks and form an opinion. It would be an absurdity to say for instance, that just because I am not french, I have no right to visit France, or state that I have known and formed friendships with frenchmen.(I have)

Please allow people to be what they want to be.Rigid dictatorial tendencies will make spiritual life dry and fruitless.

Anyway, the "Holy" inquisition IS over, Pierre. This is the 21st century!

(For readers unfamiliar with the term "Holy Inquisition",let me say this. The H.I. was an unprecedented and unusually cruel persecution by the Catholic Church of anyone who dared to disagree. By conservative estimates some 2 million people of all ages, sexes and walks of life were (mainly) burnt to death at the stake. (Most were tortured prior to execution). That many of the people were good Catholic monks, priests or eminent scientists of the day- did't matter at all. Their CRIME: DARED TO DISAGREE! DARED TO STATE THE OBVIOUS! DARED TO THINK FOR THEMSELVES!

It must really pain you,Pierre, that the direct descendents of the Inquisition, the Holy Office, in Rome is weakened now to such an extent, that they are unable to weed out errant Trappists, Fransciscans,Cictercians,Augustinians,Benedictines, Camaldolese,Carthusians,Jesuits.

The "Good old days" are gone.No stakes anymore. No burnings. (Merton would have been burnt at the stake not so long ago, for his writings)

Anyway, I do respect your opinion and will gladly give you a hearing, even if for you to have a chance to air some admittedly half baked, ill formed, ill informed, malformed,misinformed- but always enthusiastic comments.

Now, since this is NOT a forum for interreligious dialogue- may I advise to get back to Jyotish?

P.S. You may report my crime to the Holy Office. Just make sure you have it down properly:

"Dared to think"!

With deep respect

A.J.
