Hare Rama Krishna,

Dear Bharat, Namaskar

as I am well known public person, I have received by now thousands of

articles in newspapers ,magazines etc in the New York Times, Chicago

Tribune, London Times etc, even National Geographic, Sports Illustrated

, stereo Review, and a host of other European, Japanese, Chinese

papers/magazines.

I also have ( comes with the profession ,alas) some demented females

following me around (sometimes) from Concert to Concert.

The last thing I want is either an article in a gossip magazine

analysing my " love life " ,or some misguided lady trying to seduce me

through witchcraft. (The attempt was made in the past....)

Therefore, all the articles and publications have my birth details wrong

(slightly). I have done this on purpose. I guard my privacy carefully.

I have been offered (recently) a movie role (major) in a production in

Chennai. (My Tamil is pitiful). If I take it- which I really doubt-I

will have to guard my privacy even more. These things have a tendency to

" get out " in the open.

I pray that you are not be offended, if I continue my practice and keep

my birth details to myself.

I DO appreciate your interest though, in my chart.

With deep respect

Shri Brahmadaru Smarami

Dear Swee,

I am very interested to see Arpad's chart. Can someone share? Not only to see what makes him such a maestro but also what draws him to jyotish! How did he get into jyotish all the way from Austria? I would love to see it. Incidentally in Lizst's chart did you see AK Moon in digbala?

As soon as they have left us, every virtue one can think of is recalled until they, too, have eventually gone down the road of the forgotten ones. With a shrug of the shoulders it is usually dismissed as "fate."How much more uplifting, by contrast, it is to give credit to those alive who are presently making contributions in the various arts and sciences for the enjoyment of mankind. There are many to select from, depending upon the specific fields of endeavor. It gives me great pleasure, indeed, to introduce here an artist who not only specializes in one specific field, but shows several expressions of accomplishment which are of equal merit. This one is a concert pianist who as a child prodigy in his native Hungary already made a name for himself, but who, as music director of various symphony orchestras and as recording artist, has himself firmly established as the musical director of the Calgary Symphony Orchestra in Canada. Besides these accomplishments he is a student of Eastern Philosophy and Ancient Languages as well as the Hermetic Sciences in theory and practice.Exemplar is delighted to present Arpad Joo, born in Budapest, Hungary in 1948. The son of a concert pianist, he decided at a very early age to master the piano and that most versatile instrument of'all - the orchestra. When he was 10 he gave his first public concert in the main auditorium of the Franz LisA Music Academy. In the audience was composer Zoltan Kodaly, who later undertook to tutor Arpad as one of only two proteges he had during his lifetime. Along with Kodaly, Mr. Joo has studied with many famous teachers including: Zecchi, Magaloff, Ferencsik, Mathe, Kozma, Gat, Starker, Kodosa and Vacano.Arpad has had many awards and honors bestowed upon him. In 1962 he won the Bartok-Lizst Competition in Budapest and in 1965 won the prize at the Festival de Montreux where critics hailed him as "a poet whose inspiration is limitless." When only eighteen he won first prize in the International Liszt Piano Competition in Boston. He was awarded scholarships to Juilliard and to Indiana University where he won recognition as one of the finest young conductors to complete graduate studies in Instrumental Conducting. Immediately upon his graduation he was engaged on the Faculty of Music at Indiana University. He was recently the recipient of the coveted "Centenary Award" of the Monte Carlo National Orchestra after his appearance conducting that orchestra as a representative of the U.S. in the UNESCO Concerts of Young Talents. Before moving to Calgary, Arpad spent four years as Principal Conduc tor and Musical Director of the Knoxville Symphony Orchestra. A frequent Guest Conductor in Mexico and Venezuela, he has also completed South American tours, and was highly successful as he conducted at the well known Vienna Summer Festival. He has been seen and heard nationwide over the Public Broadcasting System. He has just completed several symphony recordings with the London Symphony Orchestra and in his native Hungary recorded with the Budapest Symphony the complete works of Bartok this year. As concert pianist Arpad Joo has received acclaim of highest merit. As a student of Eastern Philosophy he has traveled to the near East and to India in order to get first hand information to further his knowledge of Hebrew and Sanskrit. Not satisfied with theory only, he has engaged himself also with practical laboratory work of preclassical Chemistry, up to and including contemporary pharmaceutical research.Anyone with such diverse talents, none of mediocre quality, but of sincere devotional emphasis, is bound to leave an imprint on the sands of time. How fortunate when one still so young in years is endowed with so many gifts, and is making such profuse use of them for the enjoyment of all those who come under such dynamic influence.Undoubtedly the future will hold many surprises in store when Arpad Joo will emerge as an even more versatile individual with present talents encompassed within a conglomerate whole of such dimensions that will bring him recognition as a great humanitarian. This latter statement may sound somewhat prophetic to some, but this is exactly what it is meant to be.Those of us who know Arpad Joo can all look with confidence into the future as our expectations are high and well founded. On 2/5/07 5:32 PM, "Arpad Joo" <panchasila >

Dear Arpad,

Please ignore my mail to Swee requesting your birth data. But I am still interested in as to how you got involved in astrology all the way from Austria and found your way to us. The fact that you may have an Indian background or studied eastern philosophy does not do much to contribute to that fact.

I am interested in 3 things: your lagna, your AK and what or where your Moon is. Not nakshatra, just where it is. I would be much obliged if you can answer these questions in part of full. If you dont that too is okay.

Namaskaar Sri ArpadIf you chant Ma Kali Kavach, then, hardly any tamasic puja done against you, is likely to affect you. The same goes for a certain mantra of Lord Hanuman and Lord Krishna. You can choose your own call. Ma Kali Kavach has helped a quite a number of my clients in this regard, some of which are known faces of India. Just an afterthought. You are perhaps already aware of its prowess. Thanks and Regards

Dear Sarbaniji:

I have heard of Hungarian Conductor Arpad Joo - glad he is the same person that we have in these forums.

But a 'Google' search shows two radically different birthdates for Arpad Joo - 1960 in wikipedia and 1948 by a few other sites, including the site from where the extract in the thread below is taken. I guess the gentleman himself must let us know the truth. In any event this would be more than evident for folks attending his concert I guess.

I must add that by no means may this be considered as an attempt to retrieve information that he does not wish to reveal.

Best regards,

nitin

If you dont that too is okay.

the facts are very simple. No mystery here. In Hungary, I have come

under the influence of a Roman Catholic monk, who was also a linguist. He

insisted on me studying the Upanishas (Katopanishad was his

favourite),The Gita and Patanjali. In fact he encouraged me (us) to

memorise the Yoga Sutras in Sanskrit. He was often saying: " my boy,

until you know something by heart, you don't know it " .

As he was a Trappist Monk (these people do not talk much, spending most

of their life in silence), he was VERY strict. (He was a very curious

Catholic Monk- a follower of Ramana Maharishi).Under his

advice, direction and care I have embraced Sanathana Dharma. I was 16

years old at the time. I am a follower of Sanatha Dharma ever since.

If you are really curious, I will correspond with you in private.

By the way, we have met briefly in Singapore a few years back. I am

known here (in the Indian community) as well as some circles in

Haridwar/Rishikesh as Jyotishwar. This is what I was called by my

teacher.

With deep respect

Hare Rama Krishna,

Dear Bharat, Namaskar

as Shakespear has written some 400+ years ago:"Hell knows NO fury like a woman scorned"-he may have revealed some secrets of human nature.

As a student/disciple/practicioner of Tantra Vidya of many years, I can well take care of myself. As you are well aware, the Kali Kavacha will not only protect the devotee, but will (inevitably) hurl the original force back to it's sender. I have seen the result- at the other end.

We may argue that it is "justice done",but in spiritual practice I take the advice of Hyppocrates, the father of western medicine seriously:" first of all, do no harm."(I believe doctors are still taking what is known as the Hyppocratic oath)

But I do not want to be a hypocrite- yes, on occasion, I did avail myself some forms of protection.

With deep respect

Dear Arpad,

A trappist monk being a follower of the Maharishi and teaching the Upanishads to a young boy, that is just not possible.

Dear Arpad,

Merton met Brahmacharia before his vows as a trappist. Do you know what a ‘ Trappe ’ is? So please don’t say there has been somewhere at any time a trappist monk teaching the upanishads... I am afraid you are mixing a lot of things.

Hare Rama Krishna,

Dear Pierre, Namaskar

that is exactly how it was. Actually the truth is sometimes stranger than fiction.

This Tappist monk also lived in Egypt (in the 1930s)and studied with the sufis there for at least 2 years. At the time of our meeting he was already a very old man. As the communist took over the country-as they ALWAYS DO- started destroying religious orders, persecuting, imprisoning and executing a lot of monks, nuns etc.,disbanding the orders,my Trappist monk found himself on the street (I think he may have been imprisoned also in the 1950s) and as he had 2 different PhDs he supported himself by teaching Latin,Italian and a host of other languages. All the while he has kept faithfully to his Trappist vows.

I remember well, the very first book he gave me was Swami Sivananda's work.

But why are you so suprised? Another-really well known Trappist monk, Thomas Merton-studied with Tibetan Buddhists. Read his journals.

To make these things even more interesting, my own father was a christian priest, with a large congregation. He has NEVER discouraged me from my studies,on the contrary, he was always very helpful and respectful of my decisions.

At the age of 15 I ave started on my regular astrological lessons (which meant also copying by hand the entire textbook!)- and my father supported me all the way through.

I realise that it is unusual, but sometimes life is VERY unusual.

Dear Arpad,

Thomas Merton abridged biography

1915 born in France (chart is attached).. studies and travels in Europe1935 settles in the USA1938 he turns himself to catholicism after he met Bramachari in NY !!!..1941 he enters Gethsemani monastery1942 First vows1949 Priesthood..May 1968 two-week travel in California (council Vatican II has relaxed the rules)Oct 1968 he meets the Dalaï-Lama (2 months before his death)11 Dec’68 he died

He didn't left his monastery for 27 years. He certainly had no other teachers than the Holy Fathers of the Church. He certainly did not teach the upanishads to the novices he was in charge. The Journals you are refering to start from 1946, among which the first is prior to his priesthood and the weakest. By the way, did you really read all the 4000 pages he has written?

I shall end here. I don't know what you were looking for on this list since your inquiry on Liszt. Maybe you only wanted some people listening to you. In case there is a real suffering, may I suggest you to approach a guru privately (Visti Larsen, Swee Chan, Sarbani Sarkar…).

God bless you.

Yours,Pierre

Merton's journals-and you will find that AFTER taking vows and AFTER living the life of the monk at Getshemany Abbey in a small town called St. Mary,Kentucky, USA (Which I also visited), HE HAS MET HIS TEACHER a Tibetan Lama by the name of Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche, and with the permission of his superiors in the Abbey, he has even travelled to the orient where he has met MANY other Buddhist teachers.

By the way, he has remained a Trappist monk ALL the time!

Hare Rama Krishna,

Dear Pierre, Namaskar

thanks for your imput.

It seems to irritate you that some Catholic monks study Hindu scriptures and Buddhist doctrines. I suggest that you do look into yourself and ask this question- why?

It must also pain you very much that some christians DO in fact convert to Sanathana Dharma, rather than the other way around. While the former ALWAYS do so of their own deep seated conviction, the latter-most of the time- through trickery, promised economic benefits and outright forced conversions. (My favourite "hobbyhorse" is the disastrous, despicable christian missionary activities in India and elsewhere.Granted, especially American Protestants.)

To put the matter to rest,my knowledge of Merton is not from the Vikipedia or Catholic Encyclopedia. When I was Music Director of the Knoxville Symhony Orchestra,we had an elderly gentleman by the name Mr. George DeVine (at the time professor of Musicology,Music History at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville Campus) working on occasion for the KSO.

He (George DeVine)frequently went up to St.Marry's to the Abbey to visit Merton (it was relatively nearby)He has also become a close friend of Merton and a confidant. At the time the Antiwar movement in the US (against the Vietnam war) was gaining momentum Merton FROM the Monastery became very involved. All this is history now.(He deplored war in no uncertain terms.Church authorities at the time, especially Cardinal Spellman, who supported the Vietnam war, were critical of Merton.)

Mr. DeVine took me also a few times to St.Mary's,even though I am not a Roman Catholic by any stretch of imagination. So, dear Pierre, I do know what a "Trappist" is,and I know what they do. I have deep respect for them too.

No, I have not read the ENTIRE journals. I have read Merton's Asian Journals. In full!

(The last 200 or so pages are the most interesting). In it he calls the young Trungpa Lama a "True Master", "My Teacher" etc.

Current Catholic Authorities have a tough time explaining all this. The whitewashing-as ususal- has begun.But-sorry- he not only talked about it, wrote it, but it is PRINTED!

But I also read his Collected Poems and other works such as the Seven Storey Mountain. Well worth reading.

And a few last notes:

1. I never said that Merton was teaching the Upanishads. My early Teacher who was a Trappist monk- DID. (He also carried a picture of Sai Baba of Shirdi with him- how shocking!)

2. No, I do no look for an audience. I have plenty, thank you very much

3. I respect all religions.

4. Let's get back to Jyotish

Sincerely yours

with deep respect

A.J.

Namaste Sri ArpadI would disagree that Ma Kali Kavach would hurl the original force back. Let me explain. When a person uses witchcraft or natural forces " unnaturally " , he/she lays the seeds of his or her own destruction. I had written examples of this in the group last year. Whether or not, you do Ma Kali Kavach, they are doomed to get those results. Hence, the seeking of protection from Ma Kali, is not for the destruction of the other. Your kind thoughts are heard by Ma Kali in any case. Thanks and RegardsBharat

Hare Rama Krishna,

Dear Bharat, Namaskar

as Shakespear has written some 400+ years ago: " Hell knows NO fury like a woman scorned " -he may have revealed some secrets of human nature.

As a student/disciple/practicioner of Tantra Vidya of many years, I can well take care of myself. As you are well aware, the Kali Kavacha will not only protect the devotee, but will (inevitably) hurl the original force back to it's sender. I have seen the result- at the other end.

We may argue that it is " justice done " ,but in spiritual practice I take the advice of Hyppocrates, the father of western medicine seriously: " first of all, do no harm. " (I believe doctors are still taking what is known as the Hyppocratic oath)

But I do not want to be a hypocrite- yes, on occasion, I did avail myself some forms of protection.

With deep respect

Hare Rama Krishna,

Dear Bharat, Namaskar

thank you for your thoughtful comments. You are right, of course, the Law of Karma will take care original "sender" of the evil current/force.Time is the only factor.

In my chart there are certain factors which will annihilate the "enemy", and incidentally win in contests., etc. These factors are well known from the Jaimini Upadesha Sutras. Therefore I was avised to practice Ahimsa in all the changing circumstances of my life.

I take, what you say, very seriously. Maybe Ma Kali, through you is urging me to

recite/pray the Kavacha. With your blessings I will do so.

Immediately.

With deep respect

Shri Brahmadaru Smarami

Dear Arpad,

Of course you can talk offline. What you write below does not surprise me. The Germans are well known for their studies in Indian Philosophy, specially the Vedas and the Anglo-Saxon philosophers specialising in Eastern religion mostly spout Sanskrit. However, in these more positivist schools, one does not find people going to jyotish. Hence my question to you was specifically about jyotish, SPECIALLY as you have studied Eastern Philosophy in the west. However, you also mention that you have studied the Hermetics. So that maybe one reason why you have delved into the esoterica.

I met you in Singapore?? In 2004? Can't say I can place you!

Best Regards,

Hare. Rama Krishna,Dear Sarbani, Namaskar, the facts are very simple. No mystery here. In Hungary, I have comeunder the influence of a Roman Catholic monk, who was also a linguist.Heinsisted on me studying the Upanishas (Katopanishad was hisfavourite),The Gita and Patanjali. In fact he encouraged me (us) tomemorise the Yoga Sutras in Sanskrit. He was often saying: " my boy, until you know something by heart, you don't know it".As he was a Trappist Monk (these people do not talk much, spending mostof their life in silence), he was VERY strict. (He was a very curiousCatholic Monk- a follower of Ramana Maharishi).Under hisadvice, direction and care I have embraced Sanathana Dharma. I was 16years old at the time. I am a follower of Sanatha Dharma ever since. If you are really curious, I will correspond with you in private.By the way, we have met briefly in Singapore a few years back. I amknown here (in the Indian community) as well as some circles inHaridwar/Rishikesh as Jyotishwar. This is what I was called by myteacher. With deep respectA.sohamsa , "Sarbani Sarkar Rath" <sarbaniwrote:>> Shri Brahmadaru Smarami>> Dear Arpad,>> Please ignore my mail to Swee requesting your birth data. But I amstill interested in as to how you got involved in astrology all the wayfrom Austria and found your way to us. Namaste Sri ArpadEither the " enemy " is annihilated or the " enmity " . The yogas usually point to the later and your own choice and awakening makes this beautiful difference. Thanks and Regards

Hare Rama Krishna,

Dear Bharat, Namaskar

thank you for your thoughtful comments. You are right, of course, the Law of Karma will take care original " sender " of the evil current/force.Time is the only factor.

In my chart there are certain factors which will annihilate the " enemy " , and incidentally win in contests., etc.

A.J.
