Guest guest
Dear List Member, Namaste. If you are interested in vedic astrological software, I would like to recommend you to try this free opensource software which is known as " Maitreya's Dream " : http://www.saravali.de/maitreya/index.html I am not related to the creators of this software and their organisation and gain no benefit from them for recommending this software to others. The last time I tried this software was about one and a half year ago in January 2005 (version 3.2.1). It had a lot of potential but were marred by a few show-stopping bugs. A few weeks later, a historic announcement was made on 23 February 2005 - a full commercial-strength and feature-rich vedic astrological software was released free - Jagannatha Hora 7 (aka Jhora). Since then, Jhora 7 didn't give me much reasons to go back to the free Maitreya's Dream or other commercial software for that matter. I have since forgotten about Maitreya's Dream until a couple of days ago when something triggered my memory of this software and I decided to check it out for its latest developments. I am happy to inform you that its latest Version 4 (build date 27 May 2006) is very much improved compared to Version 3. Many parts of this program has been rewritten, many new features added and many bugs squashed. For more info about this software, please visit its official website as mentioned above. The following are a few things you may want to try out while accessing this software : At its top menu bar : - go to " Extras - Configuration - General " and set your default location. - go to " Extras - Configuration - Appearance " and set " Default Printout " to " Vedic Comprehensive " . - go to " Extras - Configuration - Advanced " and check the box " Use Multiple View (Experimental) " and change " view " to " VedicComprehensive " . - click on the " OK " to apply the settings. - go to " Extras " and select " Save Configuration " . - go to " Extras " and select " Show Statusbar " . At the status bar, you can now see real-time animated info of Ascendent and Moon longitudes, the sign they are in and how many percentage of Moon's Nakshatra has transpired. You may want to resize this main window smaller and drag this window to a corner in your desktop screen so that you can monitor these real-time info quickly while doing your current work in the foreground (e.g. typing documents, surfing the web). - create a new chart or your own chart and compare the accuracy of the info with your favourite software. - right mouse-click on the chart and try the various options available. - go to " Extras - Ephemeris " and try the various options available. Jhora is still my primary astrological software and upon further experimenting, Maitreya's Dream may turn out to be a very good complimentary second choice. Hope you have fun experimenting with this software. Thank you. Regards, Gary SJC(Singapore)
Guest guest
Hi I did download and evaluate the program. I felt uneasy with its popup (sort of) window for viewing various screens (in terms of software practices, this must always be avoided) and for sure, in terms of features / flexibility; it needs lots of work. It is still not comparable with JHora of Narasimha. Yes, it can be a good product in begining. regards / Prafulla Gang No person was ever honored for what he received. Guest guest
Dear Prafulla Gang, Namaste. Have you tried the option " Use Multiple View (Experimental) " + " VedicComprehensive " as mentioned in my original post ? Once you have configured the software to this view (under " Extras - Configuration - Advanced " ), the moment you start Maitreya's Dream, you will automatically see one single window with the following features within this same window : - planetary info on the left column - charts in the middle column - dasas on the right column - 7 tab options at the top : main, varga, varga2, text, graphical dasa, sbc, tajaka/solar - in the last 4 tab options, there are further sub-options My guess is that because this is deemed an experimental view by its author, it is not set as a default view. Thus the more stable default view is that of the multiple " window- popping " one which users like yourself may not fancy. I have been using this experimental view for the past few days and have not encounter any crashes so far. Perhaps in the near future when the author feels this experimental view is stable enough, it will be set as the default view. Thanks. Regards, Gary. Guest guest
Dear Gary Thanks for your detailed reply. I did configure the program in detail, and being from IT industry, do understand the phased release process. The program did not crash (probably, I could not properly communicate in my previous mail). I meant that, the pop up view, does not give user all the info in a glance view. and it lacks the features as yet (including detailed output); and this presentation (as an option may be a good idea) does not comply with standards of application software. Perhaps, it is good product in making. and as on now, JHora is functionally far more powerful, flexible and useful (and probably stable) for practising astrologers. Yes, I liked few things in the program - like pdf output, simultaneous working in western astrology, partner's chart (esp to review family charts), ephimeris etc. regards / Prafulla Gang No person was ever honored for what he received. Honor has been the reward for what he gave. > > jyotisa > Sun, 04 Jun 2006 16:41:36 -0000 > sohamsa > Re: Free software - Maitreya's Dream 4.0 > > Dear Prafulla Gang, > Namaste. > Have you tried the option " Use Multiple View (Experimental) " > + " VedicComprehensive " as mentioned in my original post ? > Once you have configured the software to this view (under " Extras - > Configuration - Advanced " ), the moment you start Maitreya's Dream, > you will automatically see one single window with the following > features within this same window : > - planetary info on the left column > - charts in the middle column > - dasas on the right column > - 7 tab options at the top : main, varga, varga2, text, graphical > dasa, sbc, tajaka/solar > - in the last 4 tab options, there are further sub-options > My guess is that because this is deemed an experimental view by its > author, it is not set as a default view. > Thus the more stable default view is that of the multiple " window- > popping " one which users like yourself may not fancy. > I have been using this experimental view for the past few days and > have not encounter any crashes so far. > Perhaps in the near future when the author feels this experimental > view is stable enough, it will be set as the default view. > Thanks. > Regards, > Gary. > SJC(Singapore) > sohamsa , Prafulla Gang <jyotish wrote: > > > > Hi > > > > I did download and evaluate the program.
