Guest guest
Dear All, The first Asuras to be vanquished in the Devimahatmya are Madhu and Kaitabha. Madhu seems to refer to rajas guna, passion and desire; restlessness. Kaitabha is not a word I can find in Sanskrit dictionary. Is Kaitabha refering to the indifference and ignorance of Tamas Guna? Anyhow these both refer to two primary obstacles in our spiritual endeavour? All best wishes, Paul
Guest guest
Namaskaar Sri PaulYes they are. Kaitabha is ignorance that which causes one to think that by collecting limited objects one can find infinite happiness. Madhu is the desire to fulfill oneself through limited objects and acquisitions. So it makes the mind get attracted to all that the mind likes. They are the first impediments. Thanks and RegardsBharatOn 5/23/06, paul_timecharts <navagrahas > wrote: Dear All, The first Asuras to be vanquished in the Devimahatmya are Madhu and Kaitabha.
