In a statement here, Ramadoss said the DMK government has fulfilled the dream of rationalist leader E V Periyar. The PMK leader requested the state government to initiate measures for the use of Tamil language for worships in Hindu temples. Expressing happiness over the decision, state president of Vishwa Hindu Parishad R R Gopalji requested the state government to set up a college providing training in temple worship methods. However, Tamil Nadu Archakas Welfare Association opposed the decision saying it was against " the fundamental right to practice one''s religion " . President of the association S Arunachalam in a statement here said the decision was against the verdict of the Supreme Court and ''Agama principles''. (Our Correspondent)http://in.news./060519/54/64dw9.html Priests: Hindu Munnani welcomes TN move By ChennaiOnline News Service Kancheepuram, May 19: Hindu Munnani's Tamil Nadu unit has welcomed the state government's decision to pass an order allowing people belonging to all Hindu communities with the required training and qualification to become priests in Hindu temples.Hindu Munnani state organiser and founder Ramagopalan told reporters here that the Cabinet should come forward to pay them salaries on par with Class 4 staff in government service. The opinions of village priests, priests currently serving in temples and also devotees must be sought, he said.On the appropriateness of the training to priests, he said the syllabus drawn up be designed and approved only by mutt heads and heads of religious orders. The state government and the HR and CE Department should have no role in it, he said adding that the appointment should be based solely on the merit of the certificate issued by the institution teaching the priests. All such students should be taught the Agama Sastras, he said. On providing reservation to Muslims in Tamil Nadu, he pointed out that the courts in Andhra Pradesh and Pondicherry had already stayed similar moves. This would badly affect SCs and STs. It is also wrong to bring about reservation on a community basis in military and police services, he said. (Agencies)
