Hi

all group members

I'm Hossein and have a big problem and want you to answer me

You know in Vedic Astrology we select the lord of all 12 houses in the base of

distances of all planets from the earth. It mean corresponding to the

distance of planets from the earth(from nearest planet to forest)

we select their lordship. For example , Moon is nearest planet to the

earth, then it is the lord of Cancer-after that sun is nearest and then it is

the lord of Leo-Then Mercury is lord of next sign(mithuna) and so on.Sa is the

lord of Makara and Kumbha because of its distance from earth .But if we

consider the new astronomy , we will see that sun is in the center and all

planets turn around it and in this manner the earth isn't in the center of all

planets and then we can't select nearest or forest planet and after that

we can't tell for example Ma is the lord of Aries because in this manner we

can't arrange an order for distance of planets from the earth because their

distance every time will change, and then the lordship of planets will not be

correct!!

Please answer me to help solve this problem.

Thank you

Hossein

Dear Mr Hossein,

This is a very interesting, fascinating and pertinent quest indeed.

Let me attempt to answer your question. I may not be successful to satisfy you or any other, still let me make attempt. The Ptolemaic theory ( 2nd century AD) held that Earth is stationary and at the center of the universe; closest to Earth is the Moon, and beyond it, extending outward, are Mercury, Venus, and the Sun, followed successively by Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, and the so-called fixed stars. This was propounded by the Alexandrian astronomer Ptolemy Phyladelphus. This philosophy influenced astrology and the zodiac is framed in the maner described. It was so done keeping in mind that the Earth existed in Leo and then accordince to distance of planets the signs were allocated to them. Aquarius and Capricorn were alloted to Saturn, Sagittarius and Pisces

to Jupiter, Scorpio and Aries to Mars, Libra and Taurus to Venus and Virgo and Gemini to Mercury. Leo was of course given to the Sun.

To explain the various observed motions of the planets, the Ptolemaic system described them as having small circular orbits called epicycles. After the decline of classical Greek culture, Arabian astronomers attempted to perfect the system by adding new epicycles to explain unpredicted variations in the motions and positions of the planets. These efforts failed, however, to resolve the many inconsistencies in the Ptolemaic system, which was finally superseded in the 16th century by the Copernican system.

Polish astronomer Nicolaus Copernicus revolutionized science by postulating that the earth and other planets revolve around a stationary sun. Developed in the early 1500s AD.

After suffering initial disbelief and rejection, however, the Copernican system ranked as the most accepted concept of the universe by the late 17th century.

But till now the Ptolemy theory has its dominence over astrology. Although almost 3 centuries has passed since accepetance of postulation of Copernicus, there is no change in astrology.

How ever let us suppose Sun is taken to be existing in Leo and let us also think that it is at mid-point in it. If we draw a straight line from that point it would pass through mid-point of Aquarius. On this straight line at a point 150 million KMs from the Sun, the Earth is posited. Let us realise that the Zodiac has no estimated diameter, it has no limit, it is infinity. Hence 150 KMs is not even a drop in an ocean. Thus it maters little in allotment of the signs to varius planets as done in traditional astrology.

With regards.

Dr. Rath
