Guest guest
Dear Dhanabalanji, Exaltation is definitely not connected with distance from the Earth. It is, no doubt, a sensitive point in the zodiac. The sign Aries is visible in the sky roughly during October and November in the year. This sign comprises of three constellations 1.Arietis (Hamal), 2. Arietis Mus, 3. Tauri Alcyone which extends in to Taurus. These three are Aswini, Bharani and Kritika respectively. Kritika ruled by Sun is mostly in Taurus. Perhaps this is the reason that exaltation of Sun is not considered when it is in Tauri Alcyone. The main constellation is Hamal (Aeritis). This is the brightest star in sign of Aries. Perhaps that is why Sun is said to be exalted here even though it is ruled by Kethu. Further Hamal is the one that is first visible in the evening sky before the other two can be seen. Dr. Rath Dhanabalan R <r.dhanabalan Sent: Friday, February 13, 2009 6:19:47 PMRe: exaltation/debilitation in KP Dear Luther You may be correct. Planets including earth move in elliptical path around the Sun. So the distance between the Sun and planets vary. When the planet is close to the Sun, the planet's speed is more and vice versa. Yesterday I further checked. The exaltation is not connected with the distance from the earth. Exaltation is a sensitive point in the zodiac. Astronomy and astrology are based on galaxy only. But galaxy itself has self rotation and it revolves. So there is a possibility for change of exaltation point.. Only NASA has to verify. Mars,Jupiter and Saturn are nearer to earth when they are opposite to the Sun; and they are farther away when they are towards the Sun. Regarding Venus and Mercury, the infirior planets, they are nearer the earth when they are in direct in motion and farther away when they are retrograde. Dr. Rath. Guest guest
Dear Friends,As we know, classical astrology is based on sign and not nakshatra. I believe that the exaltation and debilitation points are decided based on shodashvarga. For example, 10 degree in Aries goes into following signs in shodashvarga - d1 - 1d2 - 5d3 - 1/5d4 - 4d7 - 3d9 - 3/4d10 - 4d12 - 4/5d16 - 6d20 - 7d24 - 12/1d27 - 9/10d30 - 11/9d40 - 2d45 - 3/4d60 - 8/9As per classical astrology, Moon, Mars and Jupiter are permanent friends for Sun. Mercury is neutral and Venus and Saturn are enemy. We can notice that most of the shodashvarga signs for Aries 10 degree goes in the signs owned by friends only which makes sun benefic according to classical astrology. I hope this will give us another direction of thinking. Guest guest
Dear Punitji, In your nice observation i would like to add some more, as we know Sun at 10 degree fallen in Ashwani Nakshatra(Ketu).sun is Atma Karka.a king,a administrator and Ketu Karka for providing " Moksha' a prime knowledge to free every thing. So in ashwani 4th charna Sun's power intensify to produce the result of his Karaktatva.Because of this it is consider as exalted at 10 degree in Arise sign. Similarly at 10 degree in Libra it fallen in Swati nakshatra(Rahu) what Rahu did to Sun it is well know so all power of his Karaktava will at lowest or some extend bad so it consider as debilitation. As like this every planet have relation with his exaltation point and debilitation point. There is no any relation by nearest or farthest position of planet regarding Earth. It is purely relation of karaktava's power of the planets. It is traditional aspects what in KP learned will explain us. Guest guest
Dear Punit ji, There is indeed a strong relationship between a planet’s dignity and its position in shodashvargas, if I may also assert what you’ve said. A wealth of information is revealed in such an analysis. I am glad to share a summary table with the group for dignities of planets in different vargas, when they are at their point of exaltation and debilitation. Exaltation in Rashi In vargas Sun Moon Mars Mercury Jupiter Venus Saturn Exalted 3 3,4,30 7 - 2,3,4,20 7,9 45 Own sign 2 2 30,40 7,20,40 - 40 7,16,60 Friend's sign 4,7,9,10, 12,16, 45,60 45 2,60 2,3,9,10, 16, 27,45 9,10,12, 40, 45,60 12,16,20, 27 3,12,20, 30, 40 Neutral - - 3,4,9,10,12, 16, 20,24, 27,45 - 7,16,24, 27, 30 3,24,30, 45 2,24 Enemy's sign 30,40 3,4,9,10,12, 16,20,24, 27,45 - - - 2,4,10 - Debilitated 20 7 - 4,12,30, 60 - 60 4,9,10,27 Debilitated in Rashi In vargas Sun Moon Mars Mercury Jupiter Venus Saturn Exalted 24 7,30,70 - 4,12,60 2,20 - 4,9,10, 27,45 Own sign 2 2,9 4,30,40 20,40 12 3 16 Friend's sign 7,16,27,30 45,60 10,12,27,45 2,3,9,10 2,3,16, 24,27,45 7,24,27, 40,45,60 4,10,16, 20,60 20,30,40 Neutral - - 12,16,20, 24,27 - 9,10,16, 30 12,24,,27, 27,30,45 23,12,24 Enemy's sign 3,4,9,10 12,40 16,20,24,40 - 7,9,10 - 2 7,60 Debilitated 20 3,4 7 30 3,4 7,9,40 - Many basic principles get strengthened when we analyse such concepts, like malefic/benefic nature, their significations, control over areas of life, etc. In depth analysis throws open many options which can find use in the predictive, e.g Sun, the soul, gets deb in Vimshamsha, both in exaltation and debilitation?Moon, the mind when in dignity, remains exalted in D-4. Why does a moon with dignity debilitates in saptamsh and and a deb moon exalts in saptamsh. Why an exalted moon behaves inimically in all vargas? Why is mars important in saptamsh where it maintains dignity, whereas a deb mars is also deb in D-7.Look at mercury. A deb mercury seems to do better for D-4, D-12 and D-60 while an exalted mercury fails in these departments. An exalted jup is generally good in all departments. But surprisingly, both exalted and deb. Jupiter promotes spirituality, being exalted in vimsamsh whether exalted/deb in rashi.Coming to venus, it seems to govern, with mars, the saptamsh and navmansha, an exalted venus, exalted in navamsh and saptamsh.Take a look at Saturn. Clearly shows that a deb Saturn might be a good idea. An exalted Saturn does badly in important areas of home (d-4), spouse (d-9) and work (d-10) while a debilitated Saturn exalts in these. Any clues? There are many more such concepts which emerge from such an examination. I am doing a study on this and will share the paper with the group once I am through with it. Hope members would find the table useful to ascertain the inherent strength of planets in different areas of life. I feel that it is possible to quantify these results by adopting a proper methodology. I feel that these strengths can be useful in KP also.Best RegardsNeelam Key to vargas used in the table: Hora (2) Dreshkana (3) Chaturthamsha (4) Saptamsha (7) Navamsha (9) Dashamsha (10) Dwadashamsha (12) Shodashamsha (16) Vimshamsha (20) Chaturvimshamsha (24) Saptavimshamsha (27) Trimshamsha (30) Khavedamsha (40) Akshavedamsha (45) Shashtiamsha (60)

If the exaltation has to be in Sun's stars, it will be at 26.40 deg Aries which falls in sun-sun-sun. But Krittika has earthy tattwa. What about the position of Sun in Leo and Sagi at 26.40, in Uph and Ush when it comes in sun-sun-sun? Of these Uph has firy tattwa but again Ush is airy. Do you think these points are also equivalent to exaltation?Thank you for sharing your views and opening a line of thought.RegardsNeelam 2009/2/11 Dhanabalan R <r.dhanabalan@ > Dear Neelam You can study yourself with Sun. The exaltation degree is 10 for sun. i.e. It will fall on the 10th day of Tamil first month. Confirm whether the agni nakshatra falls on 10th day of Tamil first month? Whether the exaltation is in Sun star, Sun sub, Sun Subsub. Sun is strong in its own star and sub. 10th degree in Aries falls in Ketu star. Not only Mr.KSK, most of the astrologers have not verified it. During Summer, the Sun is closer to earth. During winter, the Sun is away from earth. It is applicable for all planets. At exaltation point, the planets soppose to be closer to the earth and the rays are to be perpendicular to the earth. On my study with Sun, the exaltation degree is not coincided with Sun's maximum power during April/May (Agni nakshatra) as mentioned in Panchanga. The opinions were divided and there was no consensus on the issue.e.g. Dhanabalan ji supported the concept by giving some references and said that, //the concept of exaltation and debilitation exist in KP.
