OHM SHRI RAGAVENDRAYA NAMAH

JAYA JAGANNATHA

Namaste Sarat,

Thanks for the elaborate and excellent answers.

Especially, the past, present and future.

Bhagya is the fruit of pastkarma. In addition we get the fruit of the father's deeds as bhagya from the father or the predecessor. Pava/punya of the self from the Past births and pava/punya of the father inherits to this life as bhagya. So, 9th.

Similarly, we pass our fruits of these life (pava/punya and wealth) to the children to carry on. They are the future. So, 5th.

The trinal cycle clearly explains. 9th (Past) ---> 1st (Present) -----> 5th (Future).

It is very clear now.

Thanks

Your sisya

Solai Kannan

Jai Jai Sri Jagannath !!!

Hare Rama Krishna !!!

Dear Solai,

Excellent. Sanjayji's faith is quite true. You really are picking up very fast - as good as in a class at the centre in Delhi. Quite true, these teachings are only transferred from the Guru to the Sishya by way of teaching and is not found in any texts anywhere. That is why Varahamihira list is a close-door classroom unlike the vedic astrology list, which is more like a forum of debate and discussions open to all and sundry. Only the gems will come to varahamihira and you are no doubt, one of them - shining bright - as are the others.

>>>the ordinary meaning of Tatwa like Agni, jala, vayu, prithvy and Akash are not enough. We need to know their extended meaning. What do they really mean in this world and what are the things they refer to? They are present in everything and everywhere, but, finding the predominant nature is very important. I think that's why your first question was asking about the predominance. <<<

There is nothing that exists without these five basic elements or the pancha tatwa. Your thinking, as expressed in the subsequent points, is on the right lines and truly deserves due appreciation. Take for instance our own body. The flesh and bones are prithvi tatwa. The blood is jala tatwa (which is nearly 70% of the total body constitution - jala tatwa is very important for life - jeeva - birth takes place in jala). The air we breathe is essential for life - prana - and it vayu tatwa. Where does all the energy comes for performance of all the activities. It is from the digestion of the food we take and this digestion is done by burning down the food and breaking them into different components like carbohydrates, proteins etc., as we study in science. This power of digestion or burning down of food is from the agni tatwa. Where is the Akasha tatwa (space). This tatwa is all pervading. It is within everything and similarly, everything is within it. The blood flows through the hollow space in the veins. Everything within us is withing this space/vacuum/aakasha and the whole physical body is occupying a solid space in the space in this brahmanda. If there was no akasha tatwa we would not have been hearing, speaking, thinking (as intelligence is as expansive as it could be like the space itself). Thus, Akasha tatwa is truly the representative tatwa of Maha Vishnu in his ethereal form where he exists in everything as much as everything exists in him. Thus, although no rasi is assigned to this tatwa it does not mean that this tatwa is non existent. This is the only tatwa which is existent in all the rasis without exception and, the entire zodiac is existent withing this tatwa. Thus, Jupiter becomes the most important planet in Hora Shastra and is said to represent God/Narayana in the chart. His placement will indicate how God would like to manifest in our present life. Thus, the predominant tatwa of the rasi will also determine its guna. Agni tatwa in the form of hurting heat will represent Rajasik Guna, while the same Agni as spreading light or brilliance with represent Satwik Guna and when the same Agni tatwa will become destructive then it will represent Tamasik Guna. Similarly, the stillness/inertness will represent Tamas Guna, activity will represent Rajas Guna and both together (sometimes still and sometimes active) will represent Satwa guna. Thus, you will find that all the rasis possess all the three gunas and the predominence of a particular guna will determine whether a rasi is chara or sthira or dwiswabhava. Hope you can now relate the rest of it with respect to our zodiacal chart.

>>>Question No 2.

In Lesson No 3. One of the assignment question was "why the luminaries has lordship of one sign, instead of 2, like other 5 planets?"

The answers given at that time by the students were not accepted by you as correct. The answers were: One mentioned that Sun is king and Moon is queen so they have their cabinet of captains, advisers etc. Another one said, Sun is Atma and Moon is Manas, so they have the rulership of their ayana. But, you answered, No, atma is also required in Moon half and Manas is required in Sun's half. And you gave the hint that the answer lies in Tatwa.

Now, even after the lesson 10, we are not sure, why luminaries have one sign. Is it like, father and mother? Dhaknayana refers to the entire father and the related 5 planet rulership with different tatwa. Similarly, Uttarayana refers to mother and 5 planets and tatwa. Is it like that? Or Is it like Rama and Krishna. Dhaknayana is lord Rama and he needs only one sign and all other tatwa are under him. Similarly, Krishna for the Uttarayana. Is it correct?<<<

Let us first understand the Hora division to understand "why the luminaries have lordship of one sign, instead of 2, like other 5 planets?".

The word Hora is derived from two words Aho and Ratra where Aho means day and Ratra means night. The Sun represents day and Moon, the night. The basic division of the horoscope is done into two halves on the axis Leo to Capricorn - being the day half or the Sun's half and is called Dakshinayan or the Southern half, and from Aquarius to Cancer - being the night half or the Moon's half and is called the Uttarayan or the Northern half. The zodiac (which is 360 degrees) is further divided into six divisions of 30 degrees in each half. While the ownership of Leo and Cancer stand allotted to Surya and Chandra on the basis of the basic division, the rest of the divisions are distributed amongst the other planets to have an equal representation on each side of the halves. Thus each planet has a 30 degree rulership on each of the halves. This will clear your Question 3 also. The Surya half is thus the day half and Chandra half is the night half. The rest of things I hope is clear with you already.

>>>Question No 4.

In the lesson # 10, it is mentioned that 1st trikona is Present, 5th trikona is future, 9th trikona is past. What is the logic behind this? 5th house is normally the Poorva Punya house, what we inherit from the past birth. I couldn't correlate, please help.<<<

Lagna is the present - our present life. 5th is future and also poorva punya. We reap as we sow. Whatever we have done in the past we reap its rewards in future. If lagna is for self or the present, 5th is for children who are truly our future. We see our future in them and good children are a blessing - truly a blessing of Jupiter who only takes credit of our poorva punya. The 5th house is also the 9th from the 9th house - so to say it is the house of dharma to the 9th house. Children or our own future is thus the result of our own bhagya or dharma. "Sarva dharma Pitri pade". If our dharma (9th) is corrupted, the 11th therefrom (7th house) (stri) is corrupted, which inturn will corrupt the 5th house (it is 11th from 7th) - the children, meaning uwanted or undesirable progeny. Our our present (1st) and past (9th - dharma/father etc.,) will reflect in our future (5th). 9th is the house of Bhagya. Bhaga means part or share of that which is destined as the part/share belonging to me - the self. If there was nothing existing already, how will it ever become a part of mine. Example, the property of the family had to exist already for me to receive it as my share. Thus, I will only get as much as is destined in my bhagya. Hope it is clear.

>>>Question No 5. - for Sun: " .....rules the Ayana (for fructification of results in dasha periods).....". What is this ayana? Is it Dhakshnayana? <<<

Ayana is direction and movement of Sun indicates the ayana or the direction and the change of seasons. Placement of Sun in the different rasis will indicate the various seasons or Ritus and his movement from Leo to Capricorn will be in Dakshinayan or Southerly movement and from Aquarius to Cancer will be in Uttarayan or Northerly movement.

>>>How is it helps in fructification of results in dasha periods?<<<

This can be dealt with later on when we will understand dasas properly.

>>>Question No. 6.

Thanks for the simple diagram explaining the lunar movement. In the diagram, the powerful or benefic moon is referred as period between Shukla Ekadsi and Krishna Panchami, whereas in the text portion under Moon, it is mentioned as Shukla ashtami to Krishna ashtami. Which one is correct?<<<

My understanding from the classes is as follows. Ashtami Tithi on the Shukla paksha is ruled by Saturn and on the Krishna Paksha it is ruled by Rahu. Moon is thus strong after Ashtami on the Krishna paksha (after Rahu's tithi) till Ashtami (before Sani's tithi) on the birght half. The true or full benefic strength is between the periods mentioned by Sanjayji in the diagram. If my notation/understanding is wrong, I stand to be corrected and would seek apologies for the same
