Namaste all the listmembers,

I came across an interesting method for birthtime rectification in the

Essentials of Predictive Hindu Astrology by R.Santhanam, pp. 176-177.

The message is essentially the following: diurnal points are found in

the horoscope which, or their angle (90°. 180 , 270°) when transited

by major planets, vis. Saturn, Jupiter, Rahu or Ketu will produce an

important event in the native's life. By taking the positions of Guru,

Sani, and Rahu on the dates of these important events, and checking

for a best fit for their transit with diurnal points, birth time can

be rectified, when it is doubtful by two or three hours.

The diurnal points are calculated in the following way: Know the

degrees of ascendant and the planets counted from zero degree of

Aries. That is, if it is Leo 25°, take 145. Deduct from the ascendant

each of the degrees of the planets. If the planet is ahead of the

ascendant, add 360° to the latter before deducting. What you now get

is the diurnal point of that planet, which is the sensitive degree.

Based on this method I created an Excel worksheet into which the

positions of the Ascendent, Guru, Sani, and Rahu at the date of birth

(in degrees from 0 Aries) and the respective positions of the planets

during several important events in the native's life. The worksheet

then calculates the diurnal points and a simple Visual Basic script

then attempts to rectify the ascendant by minimizing the transit

degrees with the angles of the diurnal points.

I have uploaded the worksheet in the Vedic Astrology files area for

your review. It is loaded with the example data from the R.Santhanam's

book and provides correct rectification for the example. I would very

much appreciate your comments on the worksheet and its possible use.
