Dear Guru,

 

I have been thinking about this some more. There are 5 tatwas fire,

earth, ether, water and air ruled by Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus and

Saturn. The two luminaries represent mind and soul. The 5 tatwas only

exist because of the veil of maya covering our eyes. When our mind and

soul are pure, sattwic guna takes us beyond the 5 primordial elements.

 

The Sun and Moon each own one house because they always exist, and the

other 5 grahas are given ownership of two houses, one in the region

owned by the Sun, and one in the region owned by the Moon, as it is because

the interaction between our mind and soul, which are not yet sattwic, that

we are still in the realm of the 5 elements.

 

So the luminaries each own one house since what the represent is pure,

and the other 5 grahas own 2 houses, since the 5 tatwas are a reflection

of the state of our mind and soul.

 

Also, for questions 2 & 3, Karu has interpreted " ayana " to mean which of

Dakshinayana and Uttarayana. However, I have given the declination of

the planets as " ayana " , both of which are ayana as per the lesson! Can

you please tell me which one you are looking for?
