Dear Pushpa,

Namaste

The amavasya puja given is the one off.

Thereafter, my advice is that you offer Navagraha Mantras first and then Gopala

SaharanÄm every Amavasya. If it falls on a Monday, the offering is

somewhat a bit more special as it is Kåñëa’s day. For offering the Gopala SahasranÄma, I have seen a turn around

in a couple of people’s fortunes by the 3rd puja.

Love,

Swee

p/s The sanskrit below is the limitations of the

software. The transliterated version can be a bit more accurate.

Maybe the sanskritists in this list can help

refine my sanskrit?

1-9 The Sage Parasara

said: O Maitreya! The person born on Amavasya is always poverty stricken. It is

therefore essential to adopt remedial measures to obtain relief from the evil

effects of such births, which are as follows:

Take a kalash (कलश; kalaśa/water vessel) and then put in it, fresh leaves

of Gülar (wild fig), Vata (bayan) pipal, mango

and nimbÄ (lemon??) trees and cover it with 2 pieces of cloth.

Then instal

the Kalash in the South West direction after reciting (सरà¥à¤µà¥‡ समà¥à¤¦à¥à¤°à¤¾ /

sarve samudrÄ)

etc., and (आपो

हिषà¥à¤Ÿà¤¾/Äpo hiṣṭÄ) mantras. Then worship the

idols of the Sun and Moon ruling the deities of Amavasya made of gold and silver mixed with copper respectively by the

recitation of (आपà¥à¤¯à¤¾à¤¯à¤¸à¥à¤µ/

ÄpyÄyasva ), mantras etc., for the Sun and (सविता /savitÄ)

etc., mantras for the Moon 16 or 5 times. Thereafter, perform havana with oblation of 108 or 28 oblations

of the mixture of prescribed (wood pieces as) fuels (समिधा/samidhÄ) and cooked food (चरà¥/caru) with recitation of mantras of the Sun and Moon. Later,

sprinkle the water on the child  and his parents (abhisekam) and offer charity

in gold, silver and black cow together with feeding the Brahmins according to

one’s means.
