Namaste Gauranga,

You asked Sanjay:

> What is Your standpoint about the Mandi-Gulika controversion?

Sanjay gave the definitions of Mandi and a few other upagrahas in

his book ( " Jaimini Maharishi's Upadesa Sutras " ).

The definitions Sanjay has given for Mandi, Yamaghantaka, Artha

Prahara etc match with the definitions given by Sri Goel in his

article on Upagrahas (in the February issue of Jyotish News).

Please refer to that excellent article.

The only difference between what Sri Goel wrote in that article

and what Sanjay gave in his book is w.r.t. Vyatipata and

Indrachapa. I have already written about this in another post and

I believe that Sanjay's definition is consistent with BPHS and

some other classics.

What I recommend is: Read Sri Goel's excellent article and read

Sanjay's book. Give priority to the latter when there is a

disagreement!!

May Jupiter's light shine on us,

Narasimha
