Guest guest
हरे राम कृष्ण॥ Dear Angel, Namaskar This is not right, everyone can worship a Shiva linga provided they keep the necessary level of purity required for any puja to be done. I think someone is pulling your leg on this as ladies have been worshiping the Shiva linga for a long time in India. Guest guest
Shri Brahmadaru Smarami Dear Angel, Shiva is one deity whom anyone can worship simply with some Ganga water and vilva leaves. In the absence of Ganga water, regular water will suffice. While doing abhishek or special puja to him, whether on Shiva Ratri or any other abhisheks such as Rudrabhishek, Milk, Ghee, Curd and Honey are used to to bathe him. Guest guest
Dear Sarbani Can women keep a Sivalinga in their home for worship. I have seen women worship or do abhishek for Shivalinga at temples but can it be done at home? Many priests in south India don't recommend it. regards Aru sohamsa , " Sarbani Sarkar Rath " <sarbani wrote: > > Shri Brahmadaru Smarami > > Dear Angel, > > Shiva is one deity whom anyone can worship simply with some Ganga water and > vilva leaves. Guest guest
Dear Swee, To the best of my limited understanding on this subject, Vidyeshvara Samhita of Maha Shiv Puran describes the glory of shiva linga. ?In the same samhita the mention of swaguna worship is also present. However, angel's question i guess was specific to women worshipping (or pouring water/milk on ) the lingam. Dear Angel, 1) Worshipping Ganesh, Murugan and Parvati before Shiva. Nope I haven't heard about any order before reading your mail. However, Shiva, as depicted in Hindu mythology, is a " family " or " union " God along with the usual responsibility of " recreation " . I repeat, this is the usual perceived notion and not my view. In this regard he is more often than not worshipped along with his family. 2) Milk with water. Sarbani ji has replied to this that milk and water are the not the only ingredients to be used. However, your question was perhaps " Why " . The reason is to the best of my knowledge is not explicitly mentioned in the texts. It is said that Shiva is pleased by such offerings. I guess for most rituals we generally follow them and dont ask " why " becoz that brings in logic which doesnot always share a very good relation with faith However, if you would still like to know my views on this subject please do mail me privately, I shall be more than eager to share my views on this subject. Guest guest
Shri Brahmadaru Smarami Dear Aru, I would not really like to comment on regional variations in this forum, but it is a common practise in eastern India to have a Shiva Linga in the house. The question of whether men or women should or not worship any deity has never been an issue. As Angel wrote, the linga is omkara swarupa. If you understand that, the rest fall into place.
