Guest guest
Dear brother, Even though, I also follow the same principle (of taking time of formation of query), I have problem with our stand! You have rightly admitted that, the queror may not note down the exact time for us. Right, but, he/she is unlikely to report time which is "far" from original time. Say, I think of a query now (9.47 PST), and I am most likely to report some time between 9.37-10.00! Right! So, your D-1 may not change much! But, D-4 and other devisional charts do change! And your analysis is using them. So, unless we avoid using D-n's, I am always uncomfortable with "unknown exact time". With Sanjay's stand, this situation is totally avoided! So, your sanity check using D-1 may pass even with a wrong time! That is what makes me troubled. Our sanity checking must be improved! I am not trying to say "our" stand is useless, but despite being logically nice approach, it has a hurdle! I guess, we must some how do the "sanity" check more elegantly. Regards, Vijay. Narasimha Rao wrote: Om Vyam Vyasadevaya Namaha Om Sree Gurubhyo Namaha Namaste friends, I will illustrate my father's approach to prasna (horary astrology) using a couple of example. While Sanjay suggests casting a chart for the time when an astrologer answers a query, my father's taught me that chart should be cast for the time when the queror forms the query. Queror forms the query at a destined time due to God's leela and the planetary position then shows the destiny associated with the query. Just as a well-destined project is commenced at a good muhurta and an ill-destined project is commenced at a bad muhurta, a query with a positive answer is formed at a good time and a query with a negative answer is formed at a bad time. Because lagna in a prasna denotes the queror (and not the astrologer), it is logical if the time of casting it is decided based on the actions of the queror rather than those of the astrologer. Cast the chart for the date, time and place of the formation of query. When a particular astrologer receives the query and answers it is irrelevant to the destiny of a query in my father's approach. Different astrologers may receive and answer the prasna at different times, but that doesn't impact the destiny of the prasna. * * * An important question now is: How can we be sure then that the query data we have is accurate? With Sanjay's approach of casting the chart when the particular astrologer answers it, you always know the time correctly. But, if we change the definition to "formation of query", it is not well-defined sometimes. I may conceive of a prasna at 8 am, form it in *clear terms* in my mind at 9 am and write it down and send it to you in an email at 10 am. Which is the time of the formation of query? It should be 9 am. But how can we be sure that the queror understands the nuances and writes down the correct time associated with the formation of prasna in his/her mind?? For this, we are advised to guess the prasna (question) from the data given first and attempt the prasna if the guess is reasonable!! The idea is that the nature of prasna should be visible to some extent from lagna and more importantly lagna lord (which represents the native). Influences on them show the kind of things that one may be wondering about at the time of query formation. If there is no link between the influences on lagna and lagna lord in the chart cast with the given "query formation time" and the nature of query, it means that the data is unreliable and we are better off leaving the question unanswered. I will give a couple of real-life examples to illustrate my father's teachings and my practice of the principles he taught. I request Sanjay and others to consider this approach with an open mind. * * * Example 1: These calculations were made with "Jagannatha Hora". A free version of it from Sri Jagannath Vedic Centre can be downloaded from http://www.sjvc.net or http://www.geocities.com/~astrowhiz. Date of Birth: September 26, 1999 Time of Birth: 2:33:15 am Time Zone of Birth: 4:00 West of GMT Longitude of Birth: 71 W 12 Latitude of Birth: 42 N 30 +----------------------+ | | | | | | | JupR | | | | Moo | | HL | Glk | | | SatR | | | | | | | | |-------------|---------------------------|-------------| | | | | | | | BL Rah | | | | | | | | Asc Ven | | | | | |-------------| R A S I |-------------| | | | | | | | | | Ket | | | | | | | | | | | |-------------|---------------------------|-------------| | | | | | | | GL | | Sun | | | | | | | | Mar | | Mer | | | | | | +----------------------+ This is a real-life example. I was told the time of query formation without being told what the query is about. I looked at the influences on lagna and lagna lord. Lagna has Rahu in it within 5 degrees. One of the things Rahu stands for is foreign stay. Lagna lord is in 9th house. Lagna and lagna lord are in watery signs. Clearly, only one thing came to my mind and I asked, "is it related to foreign stay". I was told yes. The question was: "how long will I stay abroad". For foreign stay, D-4 is the chart. In D-4, lagna has Saturn and Rahu in it. Jupiter owns 12th and he aspects lagna from his exaltation sign. Moreover, lagna lord of rasi chart (Moon) is in 9th in D-4. These factors suggest a long foreign stay. My answer was: "for a very long time". * * * Example 2: Date of Birth: January 12, 2000 Time of Birth: 5:23:00 pm Time Zone of Birth: 5:30 East of GMT Longitude of Birth: 86 E 11 Latitude of Birth: 22 N 48 +----------------------+ | | Jup | | | | | | | BL | | Moo | GL | | | | | | | Asc | | AL | Sat | | | |-------------|---------------------------|-------------| | | | | | | | | | Mar | | Rah | | | | | | | | | |-------------| R A S I |-------------| | | | | | | | | | Ket | | | | | | | | | | | |-------------|---------------------------|-------------| | | Glk | | | | Mer | | | | | | Ven | | | | Sun | | | | | | HL | | | +----------------------+ This was the query put forth by Sarajit Poddar to Sanjay and Varahamihira list members. I read the query first (in the title of the email!) and cast the chart later. So this is hindsight analysis unlike in example 1. Lagna lord is Mercury. He is in 7th. Placement of lagna lord in 7th can show that the prasna is related to interacting/dealing with others. Lagna lord with Sun can show that those dealings are related to profession. Moreover, they are in the 10th from arudha lagna (AL). Influence of fiery Sun and fiery Sg on lagna lord can suggest somehting ambitious about the prasna. Sarajit asked about his chances in an interview related to a project. The query was: "I am standing for a committee on developing business strategy called ASTERIX. I want to know my prospect of winning. This question is done with full trust and faith on the students and Of course on Sri. Sri. GURUDEV!". * * * Example 3: Date of Birth: April 3, 1999 Time of Birth: 11:50:37 am Time Zone of Birth: 5:00 West of GMT Longitude of Birth: 71 W 12 Latitude of Birth: 42 N 30 +----------------------+ | Jup | | | | | | Sat | | | | Glk | | | BL | | | Ven | | | | Sun | | | | |-------------|---------------------------|-------------| | | | Asc | | | | | | Mer | | GL | | | | | | | | Rah | |-------------| R A S I |-------------| | | | | | | | | | Ket | | | | | | | | | | | |-------------|---------------------------|-------------| | | | HL | | | | | | | | | | MarR | | | | | | | | | | Moo | | +----------------------+ This is a real-life example and I wasn't told the question directly. Lagna lord is Moon. He is in 4th and aspects 10th. Moreover, he is with 10th lord Mars in arudha lagna. So my first guess was that the question was related to career. Then I was told the exact question. It was indeed about career - whether a career move the native was contemplating would work out. If you are curious about the answer, easarpha yoga between lagna lord Moon and 10th lord Mars is bad (Read Gayatri Devi Vasudev's book "Practical Horary Astrology"). Lagna lord Venus in 8th in D-10 is bad. Sun and Ketu in D-10 lagna isbad. I thought negatively, but gave a slightly negative but mainly uncommitted answer (to avoid biasing the native). I was later told that it didn't work out. * * * Example 4: Date of Birth: February 3, 2000 Time of Birth: 9:58:00 pm Time Zone of Birth: 5:00 West of GMT Longitude of Birth: 71 W 12 Latitude of Birth: 42 N 30 +----------------------+ | | Jup | | | | Mar | | | | | | Sat | | | | GL | | | | | | HL | | | |-------------|---------------------------|-------------| | | | | | | | | | Mer | | Rah | | | | | | | | AL | |-------------| R A S I |-------------| | Moo | | | | | | | | Ket | | | | | | | | Sun | | | |-------------|---------------------------|-------------| | | | | | | | | | BL | | Ven | Glk | | | | | | | Asc | | | | | | +----------------------+ This is a real-life example. Lagna lord is in 6th house and 8th lord Mars (significator of disease!) aspects lagna. I asked if the query was related to health. The feedback of the queror was: "no, that's totally off the mark". Then I saw that arudha lagna (AL) was stronger than lagna with its lord Moon aspecting it from 7th. I decided to judge the query from arudha lagna. AL lord Moon is in 7th from it and Sun joins him. Lord of 5th from AL (Ketu) also joins them. So I asked: "is it related to professional status, recognition and awards"? The answer was "yes, it is about whether my status and standing at my company will improve". Answer was: Yes, but after a lot of anxiety (nodes on Sun & Moon), hard work, physical strain (8th lord Mars aspecting lagna in rasi) for career satisfaction (same Mars in lagna and GL in Sc in D-10!). Because of Marian influence in D-10 suggesting realization of career ambitions, it should be near-term, sudden and unexpected. Don't know the answer yet. * * * I tried to illustrate how the nature of the query is usually visible in a prasna chart if the correct time of "query formation" is supplied by the queror and chart is cast for the place of queror. This is my approach to horary astrology based on my father's teachings and there are many different approaches (e.g. Sanjay's approach). I hope you will give due consideration to the philosophy outlined in this article. May Jupiter's light shine on us, Narasimha PS: Mohini ji, thank you for your kind compliments on my ashtakavarga note.
