Jaya Jaya Jagannath!

Dear Gauranga Prabhu,

Dandavats! Jaya Srila Prabhupada! I read Donald A. Bradley's Book some time

ago and was convinced to make the adjustment to correct Lunar Parallax

problem, but I would prefer hearing from Guruji on this matter.

But after seeing your question twice regarding Lunar Parallax, I attempted to

answer you but discovered that I could not paraphrase such technical

information, I thought perhaps I could post excerpts from Donald A. Bradley's

book by the name of " the Parallax Problem in Astrology " published by

Llewellyn Publications. Here is the first excerpt:

" Devotees satisfied with rough computations are hardly deserving of

recognition as students, are better classed as believers. (Kusha's insert

into Bradley's text- " I admit that I am one of the believers and often rely

upon on my gut, as I am not so grounded in mathmatical calculation " . >:})

Where the data are specific as to time and locality, the resultant horoscope

should accord precisely with those elements of the epoch charted.

In rebuttal to the argument that mathematical precision is not necessary in

practical delineations, we reply that it is simply a matter of scholarship

and professional integrity that all calculations be made correctly. That

argument is also voided in view of the various hypotheses of " directional

astrology " in which small measures of arc equate with considerable periods of

time. Even horary practice makes use of the principle of progression under

certain circumstances, the integrity of the practitioner therefore relying

upon the accuracy of his prognosis as to the time element. It is evident,

then, that precision is to be desired in all truly scientific use of

astrology. "

End excerpt from Donald A. Bradley's book.

In his book Bradley mentions that he is not the first to address the Parallax

problem. He acknowledges Sepharial for devoting an entire chapter of his

book, Directional Astrology (Rider & Son, Ltd., London, 1921) to the

consideration of Lunar Parallax, but notes that his calculations needed

refinement.

Mr. Bradley says that considering correcting " Lunar Parallax " important

especially in the calculation of natal Moon, progressed Moon, lunation charts

critical in mundane astrology.

Excerpt from Donald Bradley's Book:

" Our initial postulate is an astronomical fact: Unless a planetary object

(member of the Solar System) is at the zenith or nadir,* its observed

longitude on the celestial- sphere is never the same as its computed

geocentric longitude, an effect due to parallax. "

I recommend reading his book for a complete understanding of the matter. It

costs $4.00 from Llewellyn Publications, P.O. Box 64383-042, St. Paul, MN

55164-0383, USA.

More later, the phone is ringing.

Begging to remain in the service of Sri Guru and Gauranga!, Kusha mata
