Om Namo Bhagavate Param GuraveDear Swee, Hare KrishnaI had to read this twice to make sure i didnt miss anything.

For clarification, did Ravan bring 5 of any one kind of the gemstones or each of the Pancha Maharatanas(Ruby, Emerald, Diamond, Yellow Sapphire, Blue Saphhire). Im sure they must have been absolutely flawless.

Now talking about Maharatnas and Uparantnas and their respective male & female energies, it would be fair to assume that like all things in nature there is duality, so could one conclude that there is a 'matching' uparantna for every maharatna and if so, could you please pair them.

Now I have been pondering about this for a while. If Moon presides over gemstones in general, by doing Tulasi pooja daily, one can have the same effect of the Maharatnas collectively. On another matter, but still related to the Moon, am I correct in my understanding that the reason why it is recommended to plant Tulasi in NE sector, is because Moon (jala tatwa) rules the NE. The assumption of course is that in the Vastu computations, the direction of the Vastupurusha was done with head orientated accordingly.

You wrote... " Surely, the last statement here is the clue to the Kalasarpa/Sarpa remedies, utilising one of the Pancha Maharatnas? " This is a trick question. With Rahu behaving like Sani, I would say Blue Saphire and with Ketu behaving like Mars, it would be Ruby. I think you may be referring to one maharatna for KSY - which is it? One can further argue that the existence of Rahu/Ketu is as a result of eclipsing the Moon and therefore Moon has to be strengthened as Moon is always going to be in trouble. Would you say that to break KSY, wearing Tulasi Mala could help.

I may be completely off the track here, so your guidance will be much appreciated.Best Wishes

Jaya JagannathaDear Bipin,

Hare KrishnaAs taught in the parampara, the mantras from the vedas are the ones you can use to invoke that particular plenary presence of the Supreme energy. Padma Purana not only states the use of a yantra with the chanting, but the gift of gemstones after offering the prayers. Raama gave profuse amounts in charities so that by pleasing the Brahmanas, they in turn in bless Him. You will note that the same mantra suggestions are given in BPHS together with the number of japas for each.

Energising or giving prana pratishta to a gemstone is very different. It means just that! That you invite that particular tutelary to bless you with His/Her presence, though I have not really known a gemstone of a particular mahavidya to be worn. In fact, the gemstone that pertains to Her is to be worshipped along with other items; e.g., Radha-Krishna, their chatra, paduka, shaligram of Nrshinga or Sudarshan etc., with flowers, incense and water and some puffed lotus nuts, dried fruits and nuts.

From this, you will get the hint that the primary - maharatnas have relatively masculine energies and the uparatnas are generally associated with feminine energies which comes to the next question of healing with gemstones. The male/maharatna energy requires of the person a relative amount of purity since it resonates powerful amounts of spiritual energy whilst the feminine/uparatna energy does not require such stipulations and hence the reason why many " spiritual healers " utilise uparatnas for healing. Depending on the type of gemstone, some are energisers, some have the ability to absorb negative energies (healing of headaches, tumours etc.,)

It is a known fact from classics like BPHS, Bhrhat Jataka etc., that the Moon presides over gemstones and herbs (immediately, Tulasi come to mind) it is the tacit understanding that both portent curative powers. Uparatnas are formed much faster than the " gemmy " maharatnas. You will get the gist of both types of healing energies from my article in the Jyotish Digest. From A. Ramayan again, Ravana was overpowered by the several transformations of the feminine energy in Sitaa. When he quelled the fire where she had entered, he found five gemstones which he carried back with him to Lanka in a casket. Sitaa said to Dashaanana " I will return to Lanka yet again, to kill the demons and destroy Ravana, his sons and his ministers. Upon my return for the third time, I shall destroy the thousand headed son of Nikumbha, named PauNDraka. On my return the fourth time, I shall kill Kumbhakarna and MoolakAsura. "

Surely, the last statement here is the clue to the Kalasarpa/Sarpa remedies, utilising one of the Pancha Maharatnas?

In the same Sara Khanda of the A. Ramayana but in Sarga 5.77, it is stated that Raama adored a Spathika ShivaLinga in order to educate the people at large. So what WAS He educating? The same spathika was held in Lord Narayana's hand as a mala when he appeared to quell his devotee's fears and the same sphatika mala is held in Durga Ma's hand. So what is the significance of the sphatika which we classify as an uparatna? Is it enough to say that we can treat like and like? That Venus, the head of the asura Guru has that power to quell our own ripu/s to begin with for the masses in the mere mortal and disgruntled lot like myself ;-))

I leave it for now.

love,Swee

To clarify, the respective mantra is to be chanted prior to giving charity of the gemstone. Can one also use these mantras to 'energise' these stones as well and what would process would you recommend one should follow prior to using gemstones.

Jaya Jagannatha

Dear Bivash,Namaste

I've given you all the gayatris as suggested in Padma Purana. Please search for it as I have spent a lot of time searching for them in the vedas etc. and have them sent it to this list. I'm afraid you cannot upload to the files because of some settings that Bipin has done.

These gayatris are suggested as in Padma P, for the person in times of strife due to their malfeasance - either in their activated dasas or during time of distress due to negative transits including charity of gemstones etc.

My guess is that the gayatris you've heard on the radio requires initiations. It's my guess only, because I'm " given " gayatris of deities.

Om Brihaspataye NamahDear enlightened members, Hare KrishnaYesterday I caught the end part of a live broadcast from a South

African Temple that had a NavaGraha deity installation ceremony. I caught the end part of the mantras as they were being recited live on air.

I remember them as being: " tano buddha prachodayat " and one being " tano ketu prachodayat " Does anyone know where these installation mantras can be found?
