Maha-mantra as remedial measure?

Dear Jyotisha,

Srila Prabhupada taught us that chanting of the Mahamantra along with

following the regulative principles of freedom will remedy the ongoing

process of birth and death, or samsara. He gave the analogy that if we had a

million dollars, all our ten dollar problems would automatically be solved.

The root of all our problems lies in identification with this material body.

This causes us to remain trapped in this temporal world where we continuously

take birth, are forced to suffer and finally die, continuing to take birth

again and again.

Srila Prabhupada taught us the glorious remedy to death- the Mahamantra (the

supreme chant for deliverance). This is the ultimate remedy during this age

of Kali.

Until we chant offenselessly, the least we are doing is chanting to get

purified from past contamination, this is wonderful. When we get past this we

are in the clearing stage, this is total mercy. Then finally we arrive at the

glorious stage of offenseless chanting. Just by chanting the Mahamantra one

time offenselessly is all we need to do to solve the riddle of death.

This is the mercy of Sri Guru! All Glorious to Srila Prabhupada, who opened

our eyes with the torch light of transcendental knowledge!

Yours in Srila Prabhupada's Jagannath's seva, Kusha devi dasi

Whether the chanting is offensive or not depends on the mentality of the

chanter. If he is

desiring material benefits while chanting then it will be not offensive, btu

rather impure

chanting. An offense happens when you commit sins and chant with the idea

that chanting

will free you from the reactions of the sins (which is of course true from

the

philosophical point of view). So chantnig for material gains is obvoously

not the highest

type of chanting, but it will give effects. Other mantras may also be used,

but not all of

them will be effective enough in the age of Kali.

Actually, to take the names of the demigods to have equal power in

eradicatnig one's

sinful reactions is much more offensive. So if soemone has material desires,

Sukadeva

Gosvami still recommends him to turn to Krishna for them. Therefore

Maha-mantra will have

effect. I don;t think that this will particularly check one;s further

advancement from the

position where he is.

> Sat. -- Sani -- Kurma & Rahu -- Varaha, Matsya

Not bad, this may be also used. My list of Deities ruling the planets is as

follows.

Actually some demigods can be worshipped as Vaishnavas (here again tha

mentality is what

counts)

Sun: Rama, Shiva, Advaita Acharya

Moon - Krishna, Paurnamasi, Lord Nityananda

Mars - Narasimha, Hanuman

Mercury - Vishnu, Vrinda-devi, Ganesha, Dhanvantari

Jupiter - Vishnu, Vamamana, Lord Caitanya

Venus - Lakshmidevi, Srimati Radharani

Saturn - Kurma, Yogamaya

Rahu - Varaha

Ketu - Matsya, Ananta, Ganesha (if Ketu is strengthened Rahu's effects will

diminish)

Actually there are many Deities that have the qualities of certain planets

or the

combination of them. This can be used in determining the Ishta-devata of the

person (seen

from the 12th from Karakamsha and 6th from Amatyakarak. You see in my chart

the 12th from

Karakamsha is Mercury in Taurus, thereby indicating especially Lord

Chaitanya. In Rasi 6th

from Amatyakarak (Rahu in own house) is Moon in Gemini, thus also indicating

devotion

towards Vishnu and Krishna. So in the Navamsha it will more indicate the

Ishta that is in

the heart, but may also manifest externally. I'm attracted to the

personality of Lord

Caitanya very much, and I worship Him in the form of our temple Deities (Sri

Sri Dayal

Nitai Vijaya Gauranga), but at home I have Giriraja, Dhanvantari, Nrisimha,

Keshava and

other Salagramas. I also have a Siva-lingam (see the Sun's and Mercury's

sign aspect on

Gemini). Thus you have to see the devotion of the person carefully and

recommend remedial

measures accordingly (by the way my birth data are 9th Jan. 1971 19.40 CET

Budapest 19E04

47N30). The best remedial measures are usually those that strengthen the

native's 9th

house and are connected to his Ishta-devata.
