A good observation and you are right, BHPS or Upadesa Sutras (Rath) do not

seem to mention this exception. I use what I have learned from Gurudev's

writings and maybe he or Narasimha or any other participant can answer this

for us. I have never asked the question myself!

Yes, K.N. Rao does ignore the exception related to the house lord occupying

1, 4, 7 or 10 from its own house. Parasara and Jaimini mention this and

therefore we cannot ignore it. Narasimha once made the astute observation

that references are made to the mutual shashthashtaka (6/8) positions of

arudha lagna and dara pada. He pointed out that if you ignore the exceptions,

then the arudha lagna and dara pada will always be in mutually odd houses and

mutual shashthashtaka position of these two padas cannot occur! Play with

some examples using the KN Rao method and you will see for yourself.

Namaste Brenden -

thx for this info... Now I have read the rules oh 10 times

and I didn't see this rule specifically , but when I seen it

in the chart I thought " is there a rule I have not read? " .

SO when I look at Upadesa Sutras pg. 15 stanza 1.1.31 , 1.1.32

I do not see the rule... is it some place else e.g. BPHS?

can you direct me , so I can mark the page....

praanam,

p.s. Interesting to note that reading KN Rao's approach he:

1. does not move the Arudha to the 4th or 10t. According to KN Rao

there is no proof that this " hop " should take place.

2. Nor does he use Rahu in considering Charakaraka.

Again, his thoughts - I respect them but do not to this

approach - yet I could not defend my position in a capable manner

to convince anyone.

Namaste Frank,

Yes, the problem is this. Libra in 12th, Venus is in 10th from 12th. When a

planet is in the 10th house, the 4th becomes the Arudha. Capricorn is fourth

from Libra. It is one of the exceptions.

Brendan
