In answer to the question "What is the meaning of the word Rajayoga?", I offer the following.

 

The word Raja has two meanings. The first is King the second can be Sun. This particular yoga indicates considerable power or authority can be held by the native in whose chart the yoga is found. First let's examine some of the patterns that can form this yoga prior to exploring various benefits of the planetary placements that form the yoga.

 

The first rule (as I understand it) is that a Rajayoga is formed when the lord of a Kendra and the lord of a Trikona are in association, mutual aspect or in reception with each other. Secondly it is possible for a Rajayoga to be formed by one planet alone. This situation arises in the case of Taurus or Libra Ascendant where, in both cases we see Saturn functioning as the ruler of a Kendra and a Trikona. In the case of Taurus ascendant Saturn rules the 9th and 10th house whereas with the Libra ascendant Saturn rules the 4th and 5th house.

 

Satisfying these requirements do not guarantee a kingly position. Not only is it necessary to have these requirements met it is also necessary to have the yoga situated in a benefical house. For example having a Rajayoga situated in the 6th house would offer a less positive benefit in material terms to the native than if the yoga was situated in the 10th house.

 

I wonder if the planets that constitute the yoga make a difference? Is the yoga formed by natural benefics more productive in material terms than the yoga formed by malefics or a combinations of malefic and benefit planets such as would occur with ascendants from the fire signs?
