Dear friends,

This is not the first time we have some data collection on the list.

Some time back, I mailed asking if any one can not read HTML mails.

In future also, we would have some requests on the list.

In most cases, it is not nessesary that members reply to those

queries/requests on the list.

It would be a better idea to mail personally to the one who requested.

In case the one who initiated the request may be time pressed (busy),

then some one like Solai or me can

volunteer.

So, it would be a better idea to mention if volunteers are needed along

with the request. (Hope Sanjay do

not misunderstand me. I do not intend to say Sanjay should have done

that. I am only trying to put some

good practice).

In that case, any volunteers should personally reply to the one who

requested. The one who requested decides who would be the volunteer and

lets the list know that. Then members would send data to the volunteer.

For example:

I send a mail to the list like:

" Please give me any data on birth and death of persons you know. I would

like to do research on Ashtaka varga based longevity

determination. Please send data directly to me "

Then members are requested not to mail data on list but to me directly

at pvklnrao.

On the other hand if I send a mail like:

" I would like to do research on Ashtaka varga based longevity

determination. Please send data directly to me. Need to collect data

about death and birth time of persons. Can some one collect data from

members please " .

Then who ever is interested to receiving and collecting data can mail me

directly at pvklnrao and I would choose one of them.

Currently for Blood Group data request Solai and myself are two

volunteers. Both of us mailed directly to the list. Now members would be

still under confusion whether to send to Solai or me or to the list.

Instead if I send a mail like:

" Please give me any data on birth and death of persons you know. I would

like to do research on Ashtaka varga based longevity

determination. "

Here I did not mention if to mail to me directly or on list. By default,

members should mail directly to me at pvklnrao

We have 107 members in Varahamihira email list. Please keep this in

mind. And for those in india, reading one mail (from a internet hub) may

be quite tedious!

Hope my mail is understood clearly and no offence meanth to any one.

Hope one of moderators of the list would find time in collecting this as

a good guide line and put in the welcome message (or some other suitable

place) for the list.

With best regards,

Vijay.
