In 5000 BC, for example, Kartika masa started on Sept 5. Lunar months are well-synchronized with solar years because of adhika masas. Still, we find that the date of the start of Kartika masa may move backwards as we go back by thousands of years. But it is not very dramatic, as you can see from the above. The idea of Kartika coming in September may sound weird. But it is not because of the shortcomings of the lunar calendar, but because of the shortcomings of the modern western calendar. September 5 of today is not equivalent to September 5 of 10000 BC in terms of season. April 1 of today is not equivalent to April 1 of 20000 BC. Modern western calendar is rather arbitrary and not perfect. I was told by some people I met at AVG that Dr. K.S. Charak taught them in another class to use the tropical zodiac in astro-meteorology. I don't find this logical. I suugest that the sidereal zodiac should be used for ALL purposes. In my AM article on " Ashtamsa Arudha and Rainstormss " , for example, I depended on the sidereal zodiac only.
