Namaste Brendan,

thanks for your insight here....very helpful. I wanted to outline what I learned from your feedbackand ask a few questions to confirm my understanding:

1. Re: Venus combustion and the new info I have read from Sanjay. Would this apply to the chart?

Here's the location: varahamihira/combustion%2Epdf

according to Sanjay " combustion of Mercury or Venus cannot happen if they are in front of the Sun as their rays can reach earth without obstruction" pls review and see if you concur that Venus then is not combust.

2. Bhadakasthana - did not notice this as a house of obstruction:

For movable Lagna: Ar,Cn,Li,Cp the 11th house is Badhak

For fixed Lagna Ta,Le,Sc,Aq the 9th house is Badhak ( in the example I have given you) For dual Lagna: Ge,Vi,Sg,Pi the 7th house is Badhak ( as in the Navamsa chart given in the example)

3. Parivarthana Yoga - Mutual exchange of Chandra and Sukra in Rasi ( yes caught that) - Yet is this not a Maha Yoga ? an exchange of the 7th and 9th ? if so does this diminish Sukra's afflicted condition in both rasi and Navamsa? Interested to hear your comments on the following ( I.e. impact to the chart) a. Chandra is Vargottama ( as is Ravi) and in Moola sign

c. In Navamsa does Kemadruma Yoga apply e.g. no Graha's on either side of Chandra? d. Sukra is Kevalya Maha Yogada - with Yogas formed will Sukra's influence ( because of being KMY) be for good or does Sukra have power for mischief? Why do I ask?For Ashtottari Dasa (below) the next sub-period is Mer-Ven

In a message dated 11/20/2000 8:01:19 PM Eastern Standard Time, fschmidt writes:Hare KrishnaNamaste Frank,First I will answer this as a purely technical question about neechabhanga. The books generally list 4 to 5 rules for neechabhanga but it is a bit more complicated that those few rules and an intelligent assessment is always important. - An exalted planet occupies the same sign as the neecha planet.- The ruler of the house holding the neecha planet is exalted.- The ruler of the house holding the neecha planet is in a kendra from the lagna or Moon. - The planet which would be exalted in the sign holding the neecha planet is in a kendra from the Lagna or Moon.- If the planet is debilitated and he is fully aspected by his dispositor, the debilitation is cancelled and good results are indicated. If you apply these rules, then neechabhanga exists. The real task here is to interpret the chart and not just apply the rules of neechabhanga. Venus is the lord of 7th and 12th in rasi and is combust, and is place in a bhadakasthana with 3 other planets (Sun, Mercury = 8th lord, and Ketu). The four planets in the 9th house give rise to a Sanyasi yoga. There is parivarthana between Venus and Moon. Moon is is a bhadaka planet placed in 7th, so we see that these indications in rasi bring obstruction to marital life.Venus, as 7th lord in rasi, is neecha in navamsa and it is conjoined with 6th lord Rahu and aspected by 8th lord Mars. So again we see that some undesirable indications wrt to marriage. We see that Venus is strongly afflicted in both rasi and navamsa. The navamsa LL is Mercury (also AK planet) is placed in 7th with Ketu and aspected by Jupiter. Note Mercury is also lord of AL and UL in D-9. Ketu and Jupiter are in parivarthana and Jupiter is aspected by Sun -12th lord, Moon - 11th lord and Saturn - 5th and 6th lord. This 7th in Navamsa is again a bhadakasthana, so Jupiter is a bhadaka lord in Navamsa. So we see a good deal of obstruction to marriage in the chart. From these indications, I would expect that this person is not married and that there may be a good deal of conflict between relationships and spiritual life. Ashtottari dasa applies and Mercury dasa (AK) is operating as LL and lord of AL and UL. It is a dasa that should bring a good deal of detachment in relationships along with some suffering and self realization. It is a good dasa for aquiring knowledge of spiritual/occult subjects.Reagards,Brendan> Namaste Brendan ( et all)> Can you help on understanding Neecha Bhanga.> The Navamsa chart below has Venus debilited in Virgo and> Mercury debilited in Pisces. Namaste Frank,

Yes, Sanjay has given us very clear rules for combustion in his article and

we should follow those rules. See other comments below.

Correct. Lord of the house is badhakesh and can cause obstruction. Planets in

the badhakasthana also become obstructed.

Parivarthna between 7th and 9th is a powerful Rajyoga, but in the case of

Scorpio lagna some obstruction will also manifest.

Very good!

Neechabhanga and Kemadruma are generally applied to the rasi, but it is never

good for the Moon to be isolated. In D-9, Moon is with Saturn and aspected by

Jupiter, graha dristhi, and Sun, rasi drishti, so not true Kemadruma.

Sukra is lord of 7th and 12th in rasi and is a functional malefic for Scorpio

lagna and also a badaka. As KMY it does have some power. It is lord of GL and

HL and placed in 10th from GL, so it can influence career somewhat

benefically. In D-10 it is placed in own sign in 9th, but in 6/8 to Mercury.

In Navamsa, it is neecha, conjoined with Rahu, and lord of 2 and 9. As lord

of 2nd it becomes a maraka and as lord of 9th it becomes strong to

influence/support dharma in your life. Note that the 1/7 axis in the rasi and

navamsa become powerfully activated in Mercury/Venus in Astottari dasa, while

the big planets, Saturn and Juptier transit the 7th in D-1. This all points

towards an event in marriage for this native in Mercury/Venus.

Cp Narayana dasa is operating in the navamsa, 5th house and has A9 in it

(learning, knowledge, dharma), though it is 8th from AL and UL, which can put

some strain on marriage. From 7/97 - 7/05. Cp/Cp - 3/00, Cp/Sg - 11/00, Cp/Sc

- 7/00, etc.

Also, Sade Sati is operating and 7th is strong in AV with 33 bindus. 8th

house has 0 bindus for the Moon, 2 for Saturn, and 21 total. That will be the

most difficult part of Mercury/Venus and Sade Sati. The native should do

propitiations for that transit.

Hope this helps,

Regards,

Brendan
