Ajit, please share:

" There are particular devatas which are invoked into the 5 individual

are chanted while offering each individual substance. "

I'm sure specifics would be appreciated by many, including myself.

Dear Freedom,

I have only ever observed the invocation

of the devatas into the panchamritas. IIRC, the 5 vedas (4 + itihAsa

(mahabharata)) and their presiding devatas are invoked into the five dravyas. Regarding

the mantras, there are plenty of different traditions. Here is one such list of

the mantra’s pratika-s given by Sri Giridhara Shastri. They are

commonly used by Krishna Yajur Vedins.

milk: sam te payaamsi . . . (or ApyAyasva

.. . . )

curd: dadhikraavanno . . .

ghee: shukramasi . . . (or ghR^itam

mimikshire . . . . )

honey: madhu vAtA . . . .

sugar: svaaduH pavasva . . .

Dear Swee,

> I don't know if there are

different shlokas

They are commonly used for the

panchamrita-abhisheka of all the devas. However, they are not slokas. They are

mantras from the vedas which have swara, and must be learned properly. Incidentally,

a quick glance shows a few typos.

There are plenty of shlokas that can be

used by all of us.

For the milk-abhisheka of Sri

Satyanarayana, one such verse is:

kaama-dhenu-samudbhuutam devarShi-pitR^i-tR^iptidam

..

payo dadaami devesha snaanaartham prati-gR^ihyataam

...

Re: Five

offerings to Shiva

Om Gurave Namah

Namaste Friends,

I found the following lines in panchamrita

abhisheka of Lakshmi &

Satya narayana pooja.I don't know if there are

different shlokas for

Shiva worship.

with milk

----------

apyaayasva sametu te viswathassomavrishNiyam

bhavaa vaajasya sangadhe

sri mahalakshmi mahaadevyainamah ksheereNa

snapayaami

With curd

---------

dadhikraavNo akaarisham jishNorasvasya vaajinaH

surabhino mukhaakaratpraNa ayoogmshitaarishat

sri mahalakshmi mahaadevyainamah dadhnaa

snapayaami

With ghee

----------

shukramasi jyotirasi tejosi devovassavitotpunaa

tvachhitdreNa pavithreNa vaso sooryasya rashmibhiH

sri mahalakshmi mahaadevyainamah aajyena

snapayaami

With honey

----------

madhuvaataa ritaayate madhu ksharanti sindhavaH

maadhviirnassannthvoshadhiiH

madhu nakta muthoshasi madhumatpaarthivagm rajaH

madhudyaurastu naH pitaa

madhumaanno vanaspatirmadhumaagm astu sooryaH

maadhviirgaavo bhavantu naH

sri mahalakshmi mahaadevyainamah madhunaa

snapayaami

With sugar

----------

svaaduH pavasya divyaaya janmane

svaadurindraaya suhaveetu naamne

svaadurmitraaya varuNaaya vaayave

brihaspathaye madhumaam adaabhyaH

sri mahalakshmi mahaadevyainamah sharkarayaa

snapayaami

As for mapping the pancha dravyas to pancha

bhootas, I feel that

Milk –

Jala

Curd - Vaayu

Ghee - Agni

Honey - Akasha

Sugar - Prithvi

My reasoning is that milk is synonymous with

Mother/Moon, hence is

jala tattwa. Honey is akin to wealth/wisdom, which

is gathered

painstakingly over a period of time. Apart from

this, it's colour,

sweetness, natural immunity etc point more to

Jupiter. Honey is

yielded only after killing / chasing away the bees

(selfishness/avarice/material desires) and by

straining/squeezing the

honeycomb (body). As flowers are linked to akasa

tattwa, so is honey

which is gathered from flowers.

Regards,

Lakshmi

Dear Ajit,

Namaste

I agree,

they are different mantras. But you’ve addressed this to me instead of

Lakshmi K

Perhaps I

should try and look up the Shiva Purana this weekend and chip in my bit of the

swaras et al.

Nice

you’re thinking about me though J. Have you had the new panchanga up yet?

Love,

Swee

Dear Swee,

> I don't know if there are different

shlokas

They are commonly used for the

panchamrita-abhisheka of all the devas. However, they are not slokas. They are

mantras from the vedas which have swara, and must be learned properly.

Incidentally, a quick glance shows a few typos.

There are plenty of shlokas that can be

used by all of us.

For the milk-abhisheka of Sri

Satyanarayana, one such verse is:

kaama-dhenu-samudbhuutam

devarShi-pitR^i-tR^iptidam .

payo dadaami devesha snaanaartham

prati-gR^ihyataam ..

Re: Five

offerings to Shiva

Om Gurave Namah

Namaste

Friends,

I

found the following lines in panchamrita abhisheka of Lakshmi &

Satya

narayana pooja.I don't know if there are different shlokas for

Shiva

worship.

with

milk

----------

apyaayasva

sametu te viswathassomavrishNiyam bhavaa vaajasya sangadhe

sri

mahalakshmi mahaadevyainamah ksheereNa snapayaami

With

curd

---------

dadhikraavNo

akaarisham jishNorasvasya vaajinaH

surabhino

mukhaakaratpraNa ayoogmshitaarishat

sri

mahalakshmi mahaadevyainamah dadhnaa snapayaami

With

ghee

----------

shukramasi

jyotirasi tejosi devovassavitotpunaa

tvachhitdreNa

pavithreNa vaso sooryasya rashmibhiH

sri

mahalakshmi mahaadevyainamah aajyena snapayaami

With

honey

----------

madhuvaataa

ritaayate madhu ksharanti sindhavaH

maadhviirnassannthvoshadhiiH

madhu

nakta muthoshasi madhumatpaarthivagm rajaH madhudyaurastu naH pitaa

madhumaanno

vanaspatirmadhumaagm astu sooryaH maadhviirgaavo bhavantu naH

sri

mahalakshmi mahaadevyainamah madhunaa snapayaami

With

sugar

----------

svaaduH

pavasya divyaaya janmane

svaadurindraaya

suhaveetu naamne

svaadurmitraaya

varuNaaya vaayave

brihaspathaye

madhumaam adaabhyaH

sri

mahalakshmi mahaadevyainamah sharkarayaa snapayaami

As

for mapping the pancha dravyas to pancha bhootas, I feel that

Milk

– Jala

Curd

- Vaayu

Ghee

- Agni

Honey

- Akasha

Sugar

- Prithvi

My

reasoning is that milk is synonymous with Mother/Moon, hence is

jala

tattwa. Honey is akin to wealth/wisdom, which is gathered

painstakingly

over a period of time. Apart from this, it's colour,

sweetness,

natural immunity etc point more to Jupiter. Honey is

yielded

only after killing / chasing away the bees

(selfishness/avarice/material

desires) and by straining/squeezing the

honeycomb

(body). As flowers are linked to akasa tattwa, so is honey

which

is gathered from flowers.

Regards,

Lakshmi

Jaya Jagannatha

Dear Lakshmi Ramesh :-)), Ajit,

Namaste

The 5 deities of Siva are Aditya, Ganesh, Durga, Rudra and Visnu in

order.(Siva Purana Chapter 25).

How would be relate the pachamrita to them?

The mantras allotted to each offering are vedic mantras. I am sure one can

get a copy of this from any Temple (esp. in India).

Love,

Swee

Dear Swee,

They are talking of

the five heads of Shiva, which have the following names: Ishana, Tatpurusha,

Aghora, Vamadeva and Sadyojata.

Jaya Jagannatha

Dear Lakshmi Ramesh :-)), Ajit,

Namaste

The 5 deities of Siva are Aditya, Ganesh, Durga,

Rudra and Visnu in

order.(Siva Purana Chapter 25).

How would be relate the pachamrita to them?

The mantras allotted to each offering are vedic

mantras. I am sure one can

get a copy of this from any Temple

(esp. in India).

Love,

Swee

Shri Brahmadaru Smarami

Dear Lakshmi,

Something tells me that I will be visiting there very soon!

Best Regards,

Sarbani

B Lakshmi Ramesh [b_lakshmi_ramesh] Thursday, February 02, 2006 5:23 PMsohamsa Subject: Re: Five offerings to Shiva

Om Gurave NamahDear Sarbani,Around 60kms from Tirupati, there is a place called Surutpalli, whereShiva is worshipped as "Tatpurusha". Here Lord Shiva can be seen lyingin a swoon on the lap of Mother Sarva Mangala, after consuminghalahala during ksheera sagara mathanam. I don't think you can seethis form anywhere else. It's around 14kms from Nagalapuram, which has perhaps the onlyMatsyavatara temple in the world, and Lord Vishnu was supposed to havekilled somaka at this place. Jaya Jagannatha

Dear Smt. Lakshmi,

Namaste

That's what I was referring to and it also includes the 6th essence.

The fifth face (pancha mukhi) upwards goes from Sadyojaata to Ishaana - Siva

Purana; Kailasa Samhita, Chapter 14.

Swee

Re: Five offerings to Shiva

Om Gurave Namah

Dear Swee,

Yes, that set of 5 deities constitutes Shiva panchayatanam. Ajit has a

lovely write up on panchayatana puja on his website. In the Shiva

panchayatnam at our home, we have Naaga (subrahmanya) too.

I think both panchayatana pooja and panchamrita abhishekam aim at

trikarana shuddhi, which embraces all karma and jnaana indriyas +

manah and subsequent elevation/dissociation of self from the elements.

And, when that amrita abhisheka/cleansing happens all the time, One

is indeed Shiva, the ultimate yogi.

Regards,

Lakshmi

P.S: My son is better, thank you, but is still weak.

Dear Visti,

If a Sunday Krishna Chaturdashi is coming

up, you will likely have a Shani Pradosham on the previous day.

Why do you prefer Masa-Shivaratri over

Pradosham for starting such pujas?

Dear Visti,

If a Sunday Krishna Chaturdashi is coming

up, you will likely have a Shani Pradosham on the previous day.

Why do you prefer Masa-Shivaratri over

Pradosham for starting such pujas?

SARVAM GYANANANDAMAYAM AUM GURUBYO NAMAH Dear Visti, Namaste. If you choose the Hora of Guru (around 17hrs 45mts) on Friday 10th, 2006 when Trayodashi rules don't you feel it would help you? By the way Trayodashi ruled by Guru may be considered, as Pradosha period can remove all doshas including ignorance. i think you are running the period of Guru in Rahu dasha as per vimsottari scheme and that Rahu is placed in Marana Karaka Sthana in 9th house. You are aware that Guru is the Karaka for that House. Don't you feel it is better to worship/request the Lord to forgive/seek His blessingsduring Pradosha time? Even the evil effects of Venus if found placed(if that may worry you) in 6th in Rudramsa can be removed during the Pradosha period. You need not worry if you do not have the idols required for Panchayuthana puja. i shall list the samagri already available, rather given to us by the Lord, below. 1.Ears - Ganapathi 2.Eyes - Surya 3.Nose - Siva 4.Mouth - Sakthi 5.Body - Visnu Sankara did establish the sixth one known as Skanda. This is directly related to Kundalini. Let us regroup these: 1.Lagna - 9th - Visnu (Sarvam Visnu mayam Jagat - OM VISHNAVE NAMA)) 2.2nd - 10th - Surya (chaksho Sooryo ... OM TAT SAVITUR VARENYAM ...) 3.3rd - 11th - Ganapathi(Vignesha - remover of obstacles - OM GANESHAYA NAMA)) 4.4th - 12th - Siva (OM SIVAAYA NAMA) 5. 5th - lagna - Sakthi (OM MAATRE NAMA) 6. 6th - 7th - 8th - Hidden - Kundalini - Skanda Only those few who are absolutely clean can keep the 6th, 7th and 8th houses clean at the time of exit/death. In fact they may choose the time of death(iccha mrtyu). As per the principles of Nyaasa if you are able to feel the presence of the divinity in these parts, even

ordinary bathing of yours will tantamount to abhisheka. By repeated nyaasa a day will dawn when that bliss of being part of the Lord/Divinity will flower. Sivoham. May Mother Bless. Best wishes. Astrologically & spiritually yours, p.s.ramanarayanan. Visti Larsen <visti wrote: ||Hare Rama Krsna|| Dear Ajit, Namaskar Because of the Kalachakra directions.
