Here are my *unpopular* views on this: Even with a highly qualified guru and a devoted student, there can be " discrepancies in the process " because this is Kali yuga. If a sincere desire for True Knowledge is present in guru & sishya, they will overcome these discrepancies. But I think that a pro-active role by sishya (asking unpleasant questions) is part of overcoming the discrepancies. Also, I think that healthy skepticism can and should coexist with respect and devotion. I know these are unpopular views, but these are my views.
