Guest guest
Sarbani's elder brother(Aveek Sarkar)has just written a brilliant editorial detailing his recent piligrimage to this remote but alluring pithastana in the wilderness of Baluchistan, where the Devi's forehead fell. Devi/Shakti worshippers regard this as a very powerful (jagrata) pilgrimage-site. This is possibly the first available decsription of Hinglaj (in any language) after almost 60 years. The English version can be accessed at www.telegraphindia.com, and the Bengali version in www.anandabazar.com (editions of 12 and 13 Feb 2006). Most of you are perhaps aware that only 2 of the 51 pithastansas (where the Devi's body-parts fell) are located outside India. Of these parts, the forehead with the sindoor/vermillion fell in Hinglaj, a remote mountain cave in the Baluchistan desert. Till last week, the only modern-day description of this was avaible in the Bengali tantrik Kalikananda Avadhoot's pre-partition travelogue Marutirtha Hinglaj, which was later made into a very successful film starring Uttam Kumar.
