Guest guest
Jaya Jagannatha Dear List, Namaste Im back into cyberspace after a weeks break. I was just curious as to what is recommended as to the naming ceremony. Over here in Cape Town, the naming ceremony is done on eith the 6th or the 11th day - what does the parampara or scriptures recommend. Also, my understanding is to give the new born child a name based on the sound associated with the nakshatra of the Moon. Are there any references to naming children in the scriptures or Jyotish texts Best Wishes Bipin
Guest guest
Jaya Jagannatha Dear Bipin, Namaste Naming day can be done when pollution day is over. The father of the child can do the naming day and should be preceeded by offering oblations to the manes. The muhurata: Venus and Jupiter should not be set (should be strong), in middle degrees, not retrograde etc. no planets should be in the 8th. (I consider both rasi and navamsa). If during uttara ayana, the naam karana is not possible, choose nakshatras in the groups, cara, sthira, mrdu and ksipra on an auspicious weekday - Monday, Wednesday or Thursday. If the Moon is strong, the 7th sign is also strong. If the Moon is benefic, all other planets will become benefic. The 7 rasis are Mesha, Vrishabha, Kartaka, Kanya, Meena, Thula and Dhanus, since they are occupied by beneficent nakshatras. If you suggest names for the Moon's pada, what happens if the Moon is a malefic or is on marana? So do choose the strongest planet in the chart in its pada to name the child.
