My answer shortly: I usually recommend wearing a gemstone only when I'm convinced from the chart that strengthening the particular Graha will not have any ill effects (or at least very little) and then go on suggesting it. So try to choose the best from lagnesh, 9th lord or Yoga Karaka planet for the given chart. Even if Lagnesha or 9th Lord is in 6/8/12 bhava? Moreover if Lagnesha or 9th Lord happens to own also 6/8/12 bhava, especially if Moolatrikona is in 6/8/12 bhava? For instance, for Vrishchik Lagna should Coral be recommended? Mangala's Moolatrinkona falls into Ari Bhava... Should Yellow Topaz be recommended? Guru owns Dhana Bhava, i.e. Maraka-Bhava... Well, I should see the whole chart to recommend which is the most beneficial and safe gemstone. Jupiter, being a natural benefic, is usually not so dangerous, even if he is Marakesh. Yellow sapphire may be recommended almost to anyone. If Lagnesh is in Dusthanas, then maybe the 9th house stone can be recommended, which is pearl for Vrischik lagna. Depending on the position of Moon in the chart this could be a good choice. So my principle is again to recommend the safest stone for the chart, and if this is not possible, you choose the viparita stone. Please see details from Sanjayji's Vedic Remedies.
