For Rama, the alternative 12 akshara mantras apart from the Om namo bhagavate ramachandraya and Om namo bhagavate ramabhadraya, are Om namo bhagavate maharajaya and Om namo bhagavate purushottamaya (thanks Lakshmi!). The last two mantras Lakshmi will have the Sun and Mahapurush/Raja Yoga reference. Guest guest
||Hare Rama Krsna|| Dear Lakshmi, Namaskar The name chosen for the devata carries a certain energy which one should analyze using Katapayadi varga. For example: a) Maharaja : Ma(5) ha(8) ra(2) ja(8) => 8258/12 = Remainder of 2. So the energy of the name comes on Taurus, the natural second house, giving sustenance, increase of family, friends, etc. So the purpose of the maharaja is to ensure the sustenance of soceity! b) Sarvabhouma : Sa(7) r(2) va(4) bhou(4) ma (5) => 54427/12 = Remainder of 7. So the energy of the name is to promote the seventh house, i.e. improve relations between partners, and increase welfare and communications between neigboors. This is suitable for companies and governments to recite. Based on this you can understand the purpose of the name. There are other more basic methods, like taking the tattva of the aksharas and adding them together. My knowledge of mantras is that of a lay person, I never study them systematically, like you do, so your guidance matters a great deal. I have another tiny doubt... Is there any specific reason for choosing the mantra as " om namo bhagavate maharaajaya " instead of " om namo bhagavate saarvabhoumaaya " , because astrologically and otherwise too, i think Sri Rama was an emperor. Ofcourse, my question is based on the popular haarathi hymn mangalam kosalendraaya mahaneeya guNaatmane chakravarti tanoojaaya saarvabhoumaaya mangalam Let me guess..is it because chakravarthi yogas are a part of raja yogas? Guest guest
+ sri gurave namah + Dear Visti Where did you get that? Whether we call Him Maharaja or Purushottama, He is 'Rama' for the world and as Rama, the energy is of Cancer or cure and healing for the world and He as Vishnu is suffering the sins of the worshippers as the fourth house in His chart has Saturn. We can call Rama by whatever name we like but this what we shall get. We shall be cured of the sins and our hearts shall heal. Using names as per mantra shastra is meant to count from Aries or Lagna the number of syllables of the mantra. The name has a certain energy based on the mantra devata or enlightnment that it does but the function of Vishnu is very different from the mantra devata aspect of the mantra. For example the Astakshari mantra "om namo Narayanaaya" cures the 8th house or the dridha paapa - terrible sins that could not be forgiven and thus prepares one for moksha. Guest guest
||Hare Rama Krsna|| Namaskar Guruji, Reading your mail, i realize an error in my application. The error was in assuming a different name for Sri Rama, than his birthname. For the sake of others i will clarify the predicament. The birthname carries a purpose, and this purpose is found out through the Katapayaadi varga. Others may CALL us different names, which will have a temporary effect depending on how long it lasts, but the created/birth name indicates the main purpose. For those of us who have been given new official names, as incase of sanyasa, etc, this will count as a rebirth of sorts. This would be inline with what Sarbani has taught in the past. But then what do we do with the other names which we call Sri Rama? I remember Sanjayji mentioned an interesting technique to Sarajit whilst sitting in a bus heading for Tirupati in 2002. This was called Achutayaadi varga. I will study this before continuing this discussion. A predicament worth examining is the names of the devatas, who have not taken on a specific avatar form, i.e. for Sri Tara we have; Ekajata, Tara, Neelasarasvati, etc. Best wishes, *** Visti Larsen For services and articles visit: http://srigaruda.com or http://astrovisti.com *** sohamsa [sohamsa ] On Behalf Of Sanjay Rath 22 February 2006 12:34 visti; sohamsa RE: Re: Varaha Mantra- Visti & Lakshmi + sri gurave namah + Dear Visti Where did you get that? For example the Astakshari mantra " om namo Narayanaaya " cures the 8th house or the dridha paapa - terrible sins that could not be forgiven and thus prepares one for moksha. Katapayadi varga of Narayana = 0210 = 120 or Pisces. Thus the name Narayana brings the energy of the world towards the house of Moksha. Now even if we say " om namo nirankaara-naarayanaaya' the energy of Narayana is still the same for moksha but here we prefer to view Narayana as Nirankaara instead of saakaara i.e. formless instead of form. Guest guest
Shri Brahmadaru Smarami Dear Lakshmi, As elaborated in other mails, there are many different ways to analyse and explore the nuances of names. Addressing Rama as Maharajaya is in consonant with his Chakravarty status, of course no ordinary Chakravarty was he! He was truly Maha-Raja in more sense than one. Similarly with the name Purushottama, or Raghunatha or Sitapati. These names were not derived out of analysis; you know there may be 1000 names that we may call him. They all describe him in his various forms, and these names do not take away the basic essence of why we worship him and what worshipping him does for us. Hence the name Maharaja was not derived from Leo. But you know all this, right? . Best Regards, Sarbani B Lakshmi Ramesh [b_lakshmi_ramesh] Wednesday, February 22, 2006 1:49 PMsohamsa Subject: Re: Varaha Mantra- Visti & Lakshmi Om Gurave NamahDear Sarbani,Thanks for the clarification. My knowledge of mantras is that of a lay person, I never study them systematically, like you do, so your guidance matters a great deal. I have another tiny doubt...Is there any specific reason for choosing the mantra as "om namo bhagavate maharaajaya" instead of "om namo bhagavate saarvabhoumaaya", because astrologically and otherwise too, i think Sri Rama was an emperor. Ofcourse, my question is based on the popular haarathi hymnmangalam kosalendraaya mahaneeya guNaatmanechakravarti tanoojaaya saarvabhoumaaya mangalamLet me guess..is it because chakravarthi yogas are a part of raja yogas?Regards,Lakshmi > Dear Visti and Lakshmi,> > Guruji confirmed that Vishvamitra's mantra for Rama is valid as the Rishi> used Rama's name specifically in the mantra (Om Namo Bhagavate Ramaya> Mahapurushaya Namah) and that Om Namo Bhagavate Mahapurushaya is more apt> for Shiva following his talk at the conference as both of you correctly> pointed out. For Rama, the alternative 12 akshara mantras apart from the Om> namo bhagavate ramachandraya and Om namo bhagavate ramabhadraya, are Om namo> bhagavate maharajaya and Om namo bhagavate purushottamaya (thanks Lakshmi!).> The last two mantras Lakshmi will have the Sun and Mahapurush/Raja Yoga> reference.> > Best Regards,> > Sarbani> > > > > _____ > > Visti Larsen [visti] > Monday, February 20, 2006 5:27 PM> sohamsa > RE: Re: Varaha Mantra> > > > ||Hare Rama Krsna||> > Dear Sarbani, Namaskar> > I thought it was a mantra for Shiva!!!! Guest guest
Shri Brahmadaru Smarami Dear Lakshmi, Will write back after 10 days! Happy Shivaratri. Best Regards, Sarbani B Lakshmi Ramesh [b_lakshmi_ramesh] Wednesday, February 22, 2006 11:09 PMsohamsa Subject: Re: Varaha Mantra- Visti & Lakshmi Om Gurave NamahDear Sarbani,Thanks for your clarification. As a fresher in mantra shastra, I enthusiastically nibble at whatever comes my way, very much like a babe who has newly learned to crawl:--)) At this juncture I have only a lot of curiosity and no discretion!! When I learn, I have a bad habit of going into a mode of unlearning/relearning in the light of new knowledge, so right now I am in such a state of flux that I really do not know what I know and what I do not know. For example, i always thought that though the names Raghupati and Sitapati both refer to Rama, there's a lot of difference in the "stress" on certain qualities or in the way the Deity is being approached/propitiated. I felt that when the Bhakta wants a wish fulfilled, he would choose the name/form which most closely approximates his desire.Saint-composers like Tyagaraja and Ramadas have appealed to sita for recommending their case(s) to Sitapati, who as the dutiful & caring husband, would never dare to refuse Her recommendation:--)) I am sure you have such sweet songs in Bengali and Hindi too. Here the emphasis is on the emotional nature of Sri Rama of Cancer lagna/rasi with 4th lord exalted.Whereas in "Raghupati" the stress is on the uncompromising Karma yogi, whose soul is exalted in the 10th house. The aspect of strong Saturn and Mars only accentuate it further. Perhaps when I learn more about mantra shastra I'll know whether/how it can accommodate such nuances. Right now, I'm content to just coast along, imbibing all I can from you and other friends. But I must read your papers as soon as I can:--))Regards,Lakshmi sohamsa , "Sarbani Sarkar" <sarbani wrote:>> Shri Brahmadaru Smarami> > Dear Lakshmi,> > As elaborated in other mails, there are many different ways to analyse and> explore the nuances of names. OM NAMAH SHIVAYA HAPPY SHIVA RATRI TO EVERYBODY. With Shri Hari Vaayu Naama Smarana, Ramadas Rao,.Sarbani Sarkar <sarbani wrote: Shri Brahmadaru Smarami Dear Lakshmi, Will write back after 10 days! Guest guest
Jaya Jagannatha Dear Ramdas ji Is there a reason why I am not allowed to read the 9th mantra? (Kidding). It is being crossed out for some reason. Best Regards, Sarbani B Lakshmi Ramesh [b_lakshmi_ramesh] Wednesday, February 22, 2006 11:09 PM sohamsa Re: Varaha Mantra- Visti & Lakshmi Om Gurave Namah Dear Sarbani, Thanks for your clarification. For example, i always thought that though the names Raghupati and Sitapati both refer to Rama, there's a lot of difference in the " stress " on certain qualities or in the way the Deity is being approached/propitiated. I felt that when the Bhakta wants a wish fulfilled, he would choose the name/form which most closely approximates his desire. Saint-composers like Tyagaraja and Ramadas have appealed to sita for recommending their case(s) to Sitapati, who as the dutiful & caring husband, would never dare to refuse Her recommendation:--)) I am sure you have such sweet songs in Bengali and Hindi too. Here the emphasis is on the emotional nature of Sri Rama of Cancer lagna/rasi with 4th lord exalted. Whereas in " Raghupati " the stress is on the uncompromising Karma yogi, whose soul is exalted in the 10th house. The aspect of strong Saturn and Mars only accentuate it further. Perhaps when I learn more about mantra shastra I'll know whether/how it can accommodate such nuances. Right now, I'm content to just coast along, imbibing all I can from you and other friends. But I must read your papers as soon as I can:--)) Regards, Lakshmi sohamsa , " Sarbani Sarkar " <sarbani wrote: > > Shri Brahmadaru Smarami > > Dear Lakshmi, > > As elaborated in other mails, there are many different ways to analyse and > explore the nuances of names.
