Hare Rama Krsna

If Maha Siva Ratri takes place every year, why would planets like Jupiter

and Mercury be taken into account? The primary grahas to observe are the Sun

and Moon (Siva and Parvati).

Maha Shivaratri

Hullo friends,

Tomorrow is the auspicious day of Maha - Shivaratri. My Guru tells

us that Shivaratri is there every month on the 14 day of the Krishna

Paksha. This day is good for meditation and communing with Shiva.

But Maha-shivratri is something even more special. If one can sit

thru the night with an erect spine in a somewhat meditative or

thoughtful mood about Shiva, there is a great possibility

to " feel " / " experience " His grace. I believe there is also a

certain pattern in the constellation that is conducive to receiving

His energies.

I did a little experiment on the JHL by posting 00 hours for 27th

Feb. - the hour of midnight for 26th. This is the position of the

planets in the various Nakshatras -

Lagna - Vishakha

Sun - Stabhishak

Moon - Dhanishta

Mars - Rohini

Mercury - P. Bhadra

Jupiter - Vishakha

Venus - U. Ashadha

Shiva is the Adi Guru. Now is it a co-incidence that the Lagna has

to be in Vishakha, lorded by Guru with Jupiter itself is in Vishakha?

Jupiter is in the sign of exaltation of Saturn and Saturn is in the

sign of exaltation of Jupiter.

Moon is in the sign of exaltation of Mars and Mars is in the sign of

exaltation of Moon.

Most significant is the placement of Sun in Satabhishekh. I remember

Sanjay ji mentioning in one of his Atri classes that this is a very

significant Nakshatra which marks the changing of Yugas through

precession. Sun signifying the soul being placed here must be

important though I do not know exactly the reason why.

MAy we all receive Shiva's grace.

Om Namo Bhagvate Vasudevaya

Freedomji, what u say is probably correct. I was just trying to find

connections about what could be unique about the placement of planets

on this particular day. Since Shiva is also the Adi Guru I thought

Jupiter may have some significance.

My knowledge is extremely limited. After writing the message I

remembered that it is the hidden 28th Nakshatra that Rathji probably

referred to when he talked of changing of yugas and precession.Of

course, it does not have any relevance in the present context.

In an ideal situation one should try to find out if there is any

uniqueness in the planetary positions on this particular day of the

year every year and whether there is a common thread running thru

such planetary configurations every year.

The only thing which is somewhat certain is that the 14th day of the

Krishna Paksha has some special significance for Shiva worship. Maybe

somebody could explain the importance of this Tithi.

With warm regards,

Vinita
