Guest guest
JAYA JAGANNATHA! Dear Karu, Namaste. Vaara is the weekday, adn it's a part of Panchanga. A weekday is a solar day, and seven of them are ruled by the seven planets: Ravivar - Sunday, Somvar - Monday, Mangalvar - Tuesday, Budhavar - Wednesday, Guruvar - Thursday, Sukravar - Friday and Sanivar - Saturnday. In the Muhurtah Chintamani the detailed method is given to find out the beginning time of each Vaar and also the time of beginning and lordship of different Horas. What is a Hora? like in the Zodiac we have 12 Rasis and 24 Horas, the motion of the Lagna will determine 24 Horas in a day, while the same length of time is expressed in 60 ghatis. So both measures are used, but ghatis are more easily converted into the motion of the planets by degrees. A while ago there was some interesting discussion on this list about the reason why the order of the weekdays and horas in a day is as it is, but I don't remember the conclusion. Maybe you can find in the archives. This much could I help. Maybe the others add some more info. Yours, Gauranga das Karu [heen] 2000. február 26. 10:00 varahamihira (AT) eGroups (DOT) com [Jagannath] No Subject Jaya Jaya Jaganath Sri Ganesha Namaya Om Gurave Namah, Guru Pranam Sanjay, and all learned members, I am having a very basic question about week days. Did we have use of week days in Vedic Astrology for events or what ever, such as Sunday, Monday Tuesday etc. In Muhurtha, Electional Astrology we using Week day as one of the panchang. In KP the weekday is acting a main role as ruling planets. Even hora calculation we take hours and minuets. In classic we used Gati and Vigati converted now as hours and minutes. Same way how this vedic date (tithi) replaced by week days. Also, can you speak about hora. If you divide the day or night in to 12, a hora is equal to one hour. Since we used only Gati ( equal to 24 miniutes) and Vigati those days, How this type of Jyotish calculations came to Vedic Astrology. I had this question for long time, without answer, so I like to know your comments. Thank you all very much.
