Dear Sitara,

Rama,

Namaste

Sorry for the

late reply.

According to

Srpati, there are 3 types of Gandanta:

Nakshatra

Gandanta in each of the last 2 ghatikas (48 minutes) of the following

Nakshatras: Aslesha, Jyestha and Revati

And the 1st

two ghatikas of Asvini, Magha and Mula.

According to

Narada Muni, there are various types of gandanta:

1)

Tithi

Gandanta : the Last 1 ghatika (24 minutes) of each of the Purna tithis – the 15th

, 5th and 10th and the 1st ghatika of each of

the nanda tithis: 1st, 6th and 11th will cause

gandanta. (Phew, my birth time missed that J)

Birth,

journey, marriage and rituals falling on these evil phases will hasten the

death of the concerned person.

2)

Rasi

Gandanta – Birth in the relevant half a ghatika (12 minutes) in the concluding

currency (not longitude) of the following ascendants: Cancer, Scorpio, and

Pisces. In the particular half ghatika of the initial ascendants affected are:

Leo, Sagittarius and Aries the gandanta causes death. If birth takes place

during such a gandanta in the day time, one’s father will die in the 1st

year of the native’s birth and if it is a night birth, the native’s mother will

die within 3 years. If birth is during twilight, he will not be free of

diseases and will face an early death.

According to

Yavanas: The child born in any kind of gandanta should be forsaken and should

not be seen for the first 6 months.

Garga Muni

gave exceptions for Gandantas:

These

Gandantas are nullified in the following cases:

1)

Sunday

ruled by Asvini Nakshatra

2)

Wed

or Sunday coinciding with Hasta, Chitra, Svati, Anuradha, Revati, Jyestha, Mula

According to

Badarayana Muni, the Gandanta caused by Mula, Aslesha and Revati is defunct if

the ascendant lord is unaspected by the Moon who in turn should be a weak malefic

and not receiving a benefic aspect. (This seems to work with my chart. My Moon

is not aspected by my ascendant lord and is aspected by my badhakesh, Saturn. I

have lived through the Gandanta period from birth and I was never sickly

either.)

According to

Vasishta Muni, the child will prove harmful to father if birth is in the 1st

quarter of Mula nakshatra if birth is during the night. Similarly, the mother

will not be afflicted if it is in the 2nd quarter of Mula nakshatra

if birth is during the day time.

But as laid

down by Lord Brahma, the Moon enjoying full strength will make the 2 gandantas

(Nakshtra and Tithi) defunct. Similarly, the strength of Jupiter will eliminate

the blemish of Rasi Gandanta.

Vasishta Muni

reckons that birth during Abhijeet will counter evils of any kind just as

hunter destroys a band of birds.

BTW, where

did you get the dictum that birth in Pushya nakshatra will be harmful? It is

ruled by Jupiter which exalts in Moon’s sign. If Jupiter is a functional

malefic in the chart, then consider offering an Upaya of a yellow sapphire to a

Brahmana. This is prescribed in Padma Purana.

Rama, I am cc’ing

you a copy of this mail as it seems you specialize in looking at a person’s

gandanta. Please go through the exceptions to the rule and memorise them JJ

Love,

Swee
